586 4" price check
Friend of mine just stole (got a super low price) on a 4 " 586 gun only, no box in 99%+ condition. circa 1987
What would these be going for? Roughly plus or minis $100.
He not selling yet but then I haven't made an offer. When I say stoles it was less than $300. I can show a pic if you need but just think of a LNIB 4" 586 from 1987...I am sure you have ideas. It should be a -2 , maybe still a -1 or a-M. I am inquiring about that.

That picture is of a 4" model, not 5". I would pay $650-$750 for that gun (others might pay more). BTW, those grips are gorgeous!

Yeah when I looked at the pic he sent me and the SCSW I realized he had the barrel length wrong. It is a nice 4".

Thanks that gives me a ballpark. GunB was not much help. They didn't have one in this condition or length that was a nice blue finish and same style targets. (That was a completed sale.)

Nice 586s without theckeylock that are lightly used and have original target stocks are very hard to find at any price. That is a $700 gun all day long.
Your friend did very very very well.
Hopefully he lets you shoot it some.

I would say a bare bones minimum of $500 and that's the friends price. I think from what I've seen they hover in the $650ish price range and go higher or lower depending on condition and what comes with them. The real trouble is usually getting someone to even think of selling them!!!

At the risk of being accused of Colt bashing....... IMHO the 586/686 represent the end game in 140 year of revolver development.
With it's beefed up K-frame to handle hot .125 grain .357 magnums; keeping the K-frame grip, with S&W's lock-work/action and a little extra weight up front.....
I don't think it gets any better than this in a 6 shot revolver.........add an action job ( or shoot 1000 rounds) and a set of Spegel extended boot grips and ....... you've got the best personal defense/Police revolver ever made........
just 15-20 years to late!!!
Price....for a safe Queen...... $600-800....... if you need/want a 4" .357 to carry......... "PRICELESS"
Mike the only .357 revolver better than the one you picture........ is a 586-4(?) with a factory round butt......
ask me how I know!!!

Thanks guys..now to talk him into selling it. He is not a SW enthusiast..just a good smart opportunist. Hopefully he will give it up at a reasonable price.
We have swapped and sold guns to each other for a couple of years now. Maybe I need to bring out something he really wants. Wish me luck.

Good luck, seems the 586 a while ago didn't bring much money. I'd say if you can get it for 650.00 or less Thats a good price. The 4" seems nicely balanced to me. The price above what I mentioned seem the norm lately, they all seem to be going up in price. Let us know how you did, the full underlug seems to be an accurate bbl. Larry
