Question Cleaning the Model 360pd Scandium 357 Snub Nose

Hello all:

I hope I am posting this in the correct place?

Can I use a brass snake or brass brush to clean the bore on the S and W Model 360pd Scandium 357 Snub Nose?

This is a really expensive costing little gun and I do not want to mark it or otherwise hurt it for sure. I am not concerned with the barrel bore for I think it is stainless steel which should take the brass. But the scandium cylinders are another matter.

I bought it for about 1/3 the retail cost from a pawn emporium and it did not have any papers with it so I need some help?

Please advise when possible.

I know it will not rust or corrode but I do not like carrying a dirty firearm.

All comebacks appreciated.

rd

Use Hoppe's Elite for your cleaner It's what S&W recommends. Use caution when cleaning the titanium cylinder, don't go nuts and use abrasives. if you strip the coating off of the cylinder/face you will have erosion and ruin it. I use a bore snake, rods jags/patches to clean the alloy revolvers. I wouldn't try to get the cylinder face "looking new" on one with a titanium cylinder.Keep the Hoppe's #9 away from that revolver and, don't use anything lighter than a 120 gr. bullet with Magnum loads.

Otherwise enjoy your "new" revolver.

So then the brass snake will not hurt it?

I've used Hoppe's #9 and brass brushes on my 360sc (scandium/titanium snubby) for many years and many cleanings. I've never been aware of any problems. (The 360sc doesn't have the dark color coating of the 360PD, though ... I don't know if that causes problems.

The bore will not be harmed by normal cleaning techniques, including brass brushes. Definitely avoid any abrasives on the cylinder as mentioned above; the usual question on this is about the cylinder face and burn mark removal but I presume it applies to heavy scrubbing of the cylinder bores as well.

Default cleaning model 360pd Scandium

I concur with Murphydog with the cleaning method. I would use MPRO7 bore gel for the bore and their cleaner for the outside of the gun. A drop of the LX oil for the outside. Do not use lead out on the carbon rings on the rear of the cylinders. I would use their cleaner and tooth brush and eventually the rings will be gone. You can use their copper remover in the barrel if copper is present. I have owned a few Scandium revolvers and never had a problem with the cleaners. I recommend MPRO7 to my students. Just follow their cleaning procedures and the more you clean with their cleaner, the less time cleaning on the subsequent cleanings. Have a Merry Christmans and happy holidays.
