Update.
For those that might be interested.
Got my 617 back from S&W.
Total turn time just at 1 month.
S&W reported that the barrel was "rough", and required replacement.
The revolver now has what seems to be a very nice barrel.
Forcing cone, and rifleing seem very much improved over the original barrel.
Barrel is clocked perfect. Cylinder gap is at 0.003". Timing perfect.
S&W made it right, and looks and feels great now.

Finally found a 4" 617, bought it, close to $820. Next day ran a patch thru the bore, felt strange, kinda dragging in a couple of places. Took a close look, and I see what looks like debris of some kind in several spots, both in the groves, and on the lands. Will not come out, looks like metal slag?? Maybe EDM issue??
What a joke! S&W quality, what a sham. It is back at Smith now, but being told turn time about a month. I HAVEN'T EVEN FIRED IT YET!
I'll probably be told they can see light thru the barrel- IN SPEC.
Finally at a time in my life with a bit of disposable income, won't be disposing of any of it toward any new S&W products after this.
I am pissed, and people talk about Taurus quality.

Default That's welcome news...

It's great to know that S&W can still do it if they try.

That cylinder gap might be a little too tight for a rimfire .

So much for quality control that day. That should have been caught before it left the factory. Nice to know it's been fixed and in a timely fashion.
