Default caring moon clips.

Groo here
I am going back to revolver after my last class with
Cunningham.
Having proved to myself that I can shoot as well
as fast and reload as fast with moon clips as my autos.
[I used a 3in 625 model 1989 and 230gr mil-spec loads]
I would like carry options for moon clips.
I have a double speed loader pouch for n frames and one of the
steel clipon comp type ..
I hope to get a 325 Thunder ranch or a 325 nightguard to reduce weight.
How do you carry??????????????????????????????????

Moon Clips should work fine in Speed Loader Pouches. I use to carry two loaded Moon Clips (.45acp) stacked, in a single .45 Colt Speed Loader Pouch for my S&W 625.

Front pocket. Checked at the range regularly. Never a problem.

Just out of curiosity, is this for duty or off-duty?

I had a special "speed loader" pouch made some while back that holds four speed loaders, two across and two deep. Works just fine and it easy to use. Gives you a little more ammo supply with zero extra belt space and minimal extra weight.

I buy 1917 full moons by the hundred, and keep about 150 practice loaded clips in a canvas tool bag all the time. Lets me shoot a while! SD loaded full moons are carried as needed in a coat or pants pocket (usually have 4 reloads when walking in the woods). Ivan

If you want to stay discreet, you can use two 1/2 moon clips, in offside front pocket.

The 1/2 moon clips are easier to lay flat in your pocket, and can be oriented in a way that makes them easy to retrieve.

I carried a 45 ACP revolver on duty for a while. The double speed loader pouch allowed me to carry 4 moonclips. You could use that or if a smaller package is needed (wanted) a single pouch. I tried to carry with the moonclip split on my belt and held with a "keeper" but found it uncomfortable.

I carryed a 610 on duty for most of 17 years. I made a leather basket weave Quad carrier for my 2.25 leather duty belt. 2 Up and 2 down with a divider. It had 4 flap.

The California Competition Works spring steel carriers work fair. The main issue is the belt clip sucks. I have had them work off the belt. I notice some of my newer ones have a sharper bend on the retainer clip lip, which should help.

I would prefer a design with:
Belt Loop
Single Post, angeled back for retention
Kydex Construction

Moon Clip Holders | The Revolver Supply Company, LLC
These have potential. You may want to give them a call to make sure you get exactly what you need.

Bob

I have a question. I just purchased my first revolver that uses moon clips.
It's a 627 .357 magnum 8 shot. I purchased some extra moon clips for it through S&W.
I have noticed several manufacturers that also sell moon clips. Will all moon clips made to hold 8 in .38/.357 cal. work well in the same revolver?
Thanks in advance.

Yes and no.
The clip fits in the groove cut into the revolver case.
As there is no real need for it, as there is in an auto case,
they very as to size depending on the maker of the clip and case.
You will need to mix and match for best performance.
Target shooters will find one clip that fits their specific case
and only use the two .
