Recently bought a 3" Model 60
Probably not the most practical .357, but I am really liking this little gun. How many of you like them?

I have had a 60-10 3 inch target for many years. I originally bought it to carry while hunting. It was the best combination of power, shootability and portability. There are smaller and lighter 357s, but they are not as easy to shoot well. There are more powerful cartridges out there, but not in that small of a package. It really shoots well for me. So much so that I have carried it as a duty gun when in plainclothes or on desk duty. It is not really a pocket gun, but in a OWB holster, it is easy to conceal under a vest or light jacket. Definitely one of my favorites.

All guns are a compromise. The 3" S&W 60-10 is the best compromise that I have found for ease of carry, accuracy, and power. Don't let the short barrel arguments get to you. A good load of H-110 under any 125gr HP will be well over 1200fps. Death to liquid based life forms like watermelons, so don't stand too close.
Best regards, Nevada Duke.

Probably one of the best woods carry guns out there. Plenty accurate enough out to at least 25 yards and enough power to discourage most predators. Nice pistols. I traded mine off for a beautiful M19 but I'll get another one day.

It's hard to go wrong with a M60, regardless of the barrel length.

Statement #1 - I Like 3in J Frames.
Statement #2 - A small-ish 3in .357 can be a fine and worthwhile revolver.
*To Me* , the J Frame is at its best with .38 +P , and if full power .357 is on the menu , I prefer the SP101 . But we live in a semi-free country , and if your preferences run to .357 J Frames , more power to you . ( No pun intended.)

My 60-10 is my 21st century "Kit gun" ....... shot shells and wad-cutters to .357s,stainless, 3" barrel, longer ejector rod, fairly small and light, good sights, easy to carry IWB or OWB without being in the way while doing other things/chores.
A micro 686 good for man or beast............
Nothing not to like.
That said I generally carry mine with +P vs .357.

My 60-10 is very shootable for me. It is easy to carry and I trust the cartridge for most encounters. It is my favorite all around revolver.

Been shooting 38's in it. Will probably load light loads in 357 brass for plinking and carry 357 when out in woods. Been admiring them for a long time and finally bought one. Have a wonderful custom 649 which is a great pocket gun, but not much fun to shoot. Still I don't think I will ever part with it.

I remember an old article in Gun World magazine in which MVs of .38/.357 factory loads in 2,3 and 4" bbls were compared. In all cases, there was a significant increase in MV between 2 and 3" bbls. A good case for the 3" 60.
Obviously, reading the above posts, many folks like them, and they should. I prefer the snub version. Can fit into a larger coat/jacket pocket when necessary.

The Model 60-10 can do a lot, without giving into compromise.

Had one and sold it to a friend . big mistake ! I thought that three inch barrel was too long for carry ? That said they mite be the best house gun going . And as a woods gun , how could you go wrong . Just get a good holster and enjoy it

I respectfully disagree. In my view the M60 Target is the very definition of "practical".

Looks very nice. Just like mine, but mine has the lock. Don't much care for that, but it is what it is. I have ordered some Hogue Pau Ferro grips as I am not a real fan of rubber. Got them pretty cheap on ebay. We will see how they look. I have some Spegal's on my 649. If I had unlimited funds I would get them.

I agree. I wore mine OWB this past week end arrow head hunting. It's one of my favorites.

I've got a 60-15 (w/lock ) that has been perfect. See my avatar...
I carry and practice with 357 magnum ammo. I find it very comfortable and easy to shoot accurately.
A friend of mine, and his wife, both liked mine so much that they found her a 60-10 for her to carry.
I liked my 3" 60 so much (but hate the lock) that I also bought a 2 1/8" 60-9 (no lock). Sometimes I carry both, one on either side.

Well, I got this here M60-10 from a fine gent who's a member on this forum. It made the long trip from The Magnolia State to the land of cheese and crackers... er, I mean 'Packers'.

I bought a 60-4 when they first hit the market. At first, I hesitated as I really wanted a 4" barrel. However, after the first target I shot I was seriously hooked. That double underlugged barrel holds extremely well and I actually shoot it better than my 4" Model 631. That weight forward balance makes all of the difference.
I have shot many targets that scored 96 percent (timed fire target at 25 yards, standing) and have taken a goodly number of edible small game animals and birds for the table. You hardly know you have it on when in the field. It's a great back up to my bird gun for sitting rabbits (cottontail and snowshoe) and the occasional wounded or sitting grouse.
Really good piece of gear, for sure!

My 60-4 came from Dale53 who knew how badly I coveted his and got tired of having to hide it every time I came to visit! Between his and another close friend's 60-10 limited run labeled "Small Hunter" or some such, I just had to have one. It's been out to the range with me a few times and each time I'm more convinced that it was a great move to buy it. Since this picture was taken, I've added a set of ebony smooth combat grips with finger grooves from Thailand that comes pretty close to fitting my hand perfectly. I really need to take pics of this iteration, but here it is with its "older brother," Project 616 on its first outing.

I have a 60-15. Not crazy about the IL but still a great shooter. About as close to perfect size and weight for a trail/kit gun as you can buy. Can be powered mild to hot. Mine has a very nice trigger out of the box. Put 60 Pro-series grips on mine.

I picked up a 60-15 pro model a few months ago after lusting for one for a while. It replaced a 3" m-60 ladysmith that I sold to a friend. As a fishing and woods bummin' companion I have found no equal. Light enough to not be apparent on the hip, heavy enough to steady my aim. I'm still working on building my tolerance for magnum loads (they are a bit brisk) but .38 +P level loads are easy to handle.

For a .357 J it doesn't get any better.... I picked up two over the years and must have been before the ILs because neither of mine have them being 60-10s. Neither are "bone stock".
The first gun is a standard 60-10. I replaced the Uncle Mike's rubber with Pachmayer Compacts as they just fit my hand better. Then about a year ago I picked up a brand new cylinder assembly off ebay and sent it to TK Custom and had it rechambered for .38 Super/9mm and machined for moon clips. The new cylinder dropped right into #1 but would need to be fitted to #2.
Gun #2 is unusual in that it appears to be one of the limited edition Lew Horton Mag-Na-Port guns listed in the SCOS&W.
Have done draw and fire tests from the holster against a 65 3" and there is no noticeable difference in speed or accuracy even with multiple targets. And that is with both +p .38s and .357s.
I usually only carry these when hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing or anything else around water.
Shooting Supers...It prefers bullets over 124 grains...
Different carry modes...
Also just picked up a custom order DeSantis Speed Scabbard from a friend who bought a 60-15 and preferred the Simply Rugged...
GREAT GUNS....
