Default Feedback on Altamont "Oversize Fingergroove" grips

Good day to all.

I'm looking for feedback on Altamont "Oversize Fingergroove" grips.

These are for my Model 60-10, which currently wear Hogue Monogrips.

*** How do the Altamont grips compare to the Hogues? ***

1) overall size
2) thickness (Hogues seem too thin)
3) comfort while shooting

Please note the attached pic.

Thanks for your feedback.

Is your 'pinky' firmly planted on these grips?

Thanks!

I've got a set I have been running on a 640 Pro...

I'm not sure how they compare to the Hogue grip since I've never had experience with the Hogues. However, I like these Altamonts.

They are comfortable and fit my hand well. Fit and finish are excellent. Recoil absorption is not what you will get with rubber grips, however even with 357 Magnums I don't really see a problem.

The one issue I've seen is interference with a speed loader. With the pictured 640 I have a moonclip option And they work without interference. If you carry your spares on a speed strip like I do, there isn't an issue.

Overall, I give them a thumbs up.

Edmo

Can somebody post a pic of the left side so we can get an idea how much room these grips provide for speed loaders? Thanks.

I have a pair waiting to go on my 10-8 when I get it back from a refinish. I tried them on my 67 and they look and feel great. Great option for those who don't wanna spend big bucks on factory combats.

Is your 'pinky' firmly planted on these grips or is it just barely touching the bottom groove?

Thanks!

I wear large sized gloves and have medium thickness fingers. Having said this, each of my grip fingers are centered in each of the three grooves.

You will like the Altamonts. Have 4 different handguns with the finger groove grips. All Smiths. 638,649 and 2 1911's. All look, feel and shoot great.

My feeling was they were way to thick. They have a thumb shelf on both sides and it digs into my hand on the non thumb side, plus it didn't feel all to spectacular on the thumb side either. It felt like the portion behind the trigger guard is taller than other grips (not sure how to describe it but my middle finger was lower than I liked it), this means the gun sat higher in my hand thus raising the bore axis ever so slightly. If you like to get the web of your hand as high as possible these grips may not work for you. If your looking for the best concealed carry grip you may want to look elsewhere too, If your carrying a small gun because you want the best in concealability, these grips pretty much cancel out the benefits of a small frame gun. They are almost as wide as the cylinder and pretty dang long. There are other options if you want presentation grade grips, I would recommend researching a little more before buying.

I reprofiled the grips drastically to get a feel that fit me better.
