Default Cleaning Solutions

I recently got a 929 and learned S&W says not to use cleaners containing ammonia on it. Walther also cautions against using ammonia containing cleaners on my new PPQ. Kreiger says ammonia is bad for their barrels. What is the world coming to!!!!! My favorite all time cleaner for the past 35 years is Hoppe's #9 and I am now in search of a new cleaner - what are the options??

Hoppe's Elite line contains no ammonia. It is what I use.

CLP

I still use Hoppe's as a bore cleaner. Especially, if the bore is extra dirty. (CLP isn't real aggressive). I'm just careful to not get it on any outside surface.

Ed's Red works brilliantly and does the job for me. As an added bonus the Dexron ATF and Kerosene part of the recipe makes a good general purpose gun oil.

Don't understand why everybody used Hoppes #9 all these years and still has rifling, bluing, and metal still on their guns

Makes me wonder if manufacturers just looking to sell a better mouse trap!

I started using Rig #2 Oil 36 years ago and still use it every day, and as stated on the label it won' harm wood, plastic, rubber, Bluing, Nickel, etc. and smells pretty good. I like that it cleans, lubes and protects and there is no need to completely remove a solvent before applying a lube & protectant.

I still do use Hoppes #9 to soak really filthy and fowled parts in before scrubbing them on a new to me (old gun) acquisition. I have never had a gun or its finish ruined by Hoppes #9 and that even includes Nickel (before I read it would dissolve the finish).

Most of my guns are stainless but I never had an issue with Hoppes other than the smell.

I've tried a lot of different products but the ones I use all the time are M Pro 7 Gun Cleaner, Gel, Oil and Copper Cleaner. They work better than anything else, IMHO.
