I am thinking 1) is Osage Orange, and 2) might be walnut.

#1 I don't think that O.O. was ever used on factory stocks.
#2 Has some qualities of walnut, but I'm sticking with GA.

Might be right about #2, I'm just guessing. Orange Osage was available in factory targets from S&W, at least as an option. I have a pair of factory grips on a model 28, straight from the 1979 factory packaging.

I too was guessing walnut for #2. Here are some side by side pics. The pic of the bottom sides says that they are the same wood. I didn't notice that before.

My guess is both GA, one with the grain across the grips (#2 The darker) and one with the grain running front to back #1.

The top pair sure looks like mahogany, but that type of wood is very soft..
Dummy here, what does G.A. stand for..
