I'm close to buying a 351C, 22 Magnum. I have yet to check one out first hand; only pics.

I have some apprehension about the front sight.

The S&W site refers to it as "XS Sights-White Dot".
It doesn't look like the Tritium "Standard Dot" that the M340 has or what's listed on the XS Sight page.

Questions:

1) Is the "White Dot" a Tritium night sight or a small round white dot?

2) If it is a simple small white dot, how visible is it in daylight and in low light?

3) Being a pinned site, can I replace it with the "Big or Standard Dot", listed on the XS Sight page.

To me, the standard white dot would be an upgrade compared to say, the front sight blade on a 442.

Yes, you can put a XS standard or big dot on it.

S&W did the same thing with the 43C.

Eventually, my 43C will have the upgraded Tritium sight that S&W should have installed from the beginning.

It's a big white dot, non-tritium but very easy to see, and the sight channel is deep and curved to match the dot. I didn't see any need to alter mine; it works very well for aimed shots - or just put the big dot on the target and pull the trigger.

I'd get the big dot tritium sight and call it a day!

I sent an email to XS, asking them what needed to be done to install their Tritium sight. Here is their reply from Bo @ XS.

"Need to double check the height we sell S&W that front sight in a 0.180" and 0.150" height. I think that one is our 0.180" but it would be best to double check. In either case we do offer a tritium Std Dot (which is the size you have) that is $60 + S&H. It will require a minor amount of gunsmithing to drill the retaining pin hole.

S&W presses the front sight in and drills through both the barrel and sight to ensure a perfect match up between the two. What they do not do is hold the the location of that hole on the barrel close enough to allow us to pre-drill it."
