Question Nill Griffe Grip Question, plz help

I have my eyes set on this new shoe for my 627PC.
But when I look at Nill's website, it says size is Large and trigger finger backwards by 5mm.

S&W N-Rahmen r.b. Rhomlas fi.-gr. closed back, sim.Ph.Hemphill-SW016PHG8

I have medium size hand and finger, wear M size gloves.

Can any owner of this grip share some insights on the size of this grip. Would Med size hands be able to handle it?

thank you so much!

Welcome to the forum.
I do not have any first hand knowledge of those grips but they look huge to me.

Let me start by noting that I would characterize my hands as being a medium size. I once owned a set of Nill grips, a different style that those you are looking at, and found them to be comfortable for slow deliberate shooting, but too big for any of the action pistol competitions. Since my focus is on competitive shooting, I decided to sell them and buy something better suited to competition shooting. The Hogue big butt grips are now my preferred grip. If your intended purpose is general range shooting, where you can adjust your grip after every shot, then they may suit your needs. You can always buy the grips and try them for a while. If they don't fit the way you would like you can always sell them for close to what you paid for them.

I have found that any of the finger groove style grips never seem to line up with my fingers. I now prefer to non-finger grooved grips. You may want to consider the same grip without the finger grooves.

Default Karl Nill

Hello,

I think the grips below on my Magnaport Custom 629 Classic PP are the same as the grips you refer to. They are very nice grips, as all Nill grips are. They are easily my favorite grips for revolvers. The quality is excellent and the fit is seamless where the halves fit together. I would recommend them HIGHLY, and i am not one of those guys who think's that whatever I use is wonderful, just because i purchased it.

I have medium hands but long fingers so these grips are not too large by any means. Grips are subjective, but I would classify the Nill grips that have the closed back as "large" generally, but not excessively so. Nill also has some models in an XL size and those are very large.

If you have a concern about the grips being too large, i would opt for one of the open back models, such as their open back replacement grip.

My hands down favorite Nill grip is on the lower PC 629 and is simply their smooth closed back replacement grip. That grip suits my hands just perfectly and it super sharp looking as well. The Hemphill model, upper gun pictured, is slightly smaller in that it has a more pronounced flare at the bottom and has a thinner center portion where your palms are.

If you wear a medium size glove, go for one of the open back models. I think those would be your most probable "perfect fit"

Coincidentally, I just recently ordered the SW038P competition grip for my inbound Performance Center 617 that will be arriving soon from Germany.

IC

i think the safer choice would be more like these (although the closed back Hemphill's may work for you):

FWIW.I bought and installed a beautiful set of stocks from Nill. Stippled and closed back. Much too big. I typically wear a large glove. Hope this helps.

I have a set of the closed-backed Nills on both my 648 .22 mag. and on my 629 Mountain Gun. They are the perfect grip for medium/large hands when it comes to SINGLE ACTION shooting. All of my shooting with the 648 (scoped sighted) is done single action, so these grips are perfect for that particular handgun.

They are a mixed bag on my Mountain Gun. Most of my shooting with that revolver is done single action. Perfect. They are great at aborbing the .44's recoil. I do practice double-action shooting with the 629 because it is also one of my bear country hiking guns, and I find the Nills a little to large for that purpose (trigger reach on the long side). It is certainly doable, but not ideal.

So, I guess: Perfect for single action, not-so-perfect for double-action shooting. What kind of shooting do you plan on doing with this revolver?

S&W N-Frame round butt, Rhomlas, finger grooves, open back-SW016HO8

I HAVE A MED TO LARGE HAND. THE PHILIP HEMPHILL GRIPS ARE MUCH TO BIG FOR ME. TRY THE ONES I HAVE LISTED ABOVE. THE OPEN BACK WILL WORK MUCH BETTER FOR YOU I THINK. JP

Default Thank you all

Thank you all for sharing your experience.
Since I shot double action most of my favorite and time. It seems like an open back Nill is the better fit.

I have some bad luck with SW open back came with 627pc.
1st it is Not flash with the back strap. It actually break my skin twice.
2nd I found that grip too thin. I just don't feel there is enough to hold on. That is very odd gave my hand size is medium.

I hope Nill is better made and More thicker for my palm.

Thank you again

I've purchased a number of their grips.I love 'em.
My 617 wears an XL set of the type the OP inquired about.(I have large/extra large hands). Most Nill grips have a palm swell and fit great in my opinion.Aside from S&W combat style grips,I find that all S&W grips feel lousy.
For medium size hands,I'd opt for an open back design.

I wear a size 9 glove, which is a medium. Closed back Nills will put the trigger too far forward for effective double action shooting. Nills make an open back grip (checkered-non checkered) that will be a better fit.

Nills are HIGH quality grips and worth the money but grips need to fit your hand correctly for what you want to do with the weapon or you won't like them and not use them.
