Default Model 48 Thoughts

Saw a new S&W Model 48 22 mag at my LGS today, really caught my eye, he is asking $949 for it which appears to be msrp. I see a couple on the web and with fee's they would end up costing about the same.
What are your thoughts on this gun?

I have one that rolled off the assembly line in 1959. It's a great gun. .22 magnum has the bark of a big dog but with a slight milder bite. I'm guessing the brand new ones are just as good.

Have a 1959 version also and one of my favorites. Seems to shoot any ammo with exceptional accuracy unlike my .22LR Smiths which can be a little picky.
A new one should serve you well.

The model 48 has been my least favorite Smith. It's a rifle round in opinion, the gun is excessively loud, and the one that I had wouldn't go more than two cylinder fulls without cleaning under the star.
For something more than a .22lr,I'll go straight to a .38.
With both the .22 and .38,there is a wide range of ammo types available. Not so with the .22 magnum.

I have a 1959 as well and I love it, it shoots any thing I put in it and as accurate as my K22. I think the new ones we'll be just as good.
Have fun

I finally found a 4 inch after looking for about five years. Bought it at a gunshow, used but very pretty. Paid 800.00 for it and I am happy with this.

It shoots really well. I have shot the CCI WRF round in it also and it shoots this actually better than the standard .22mag rounds I've used. The WRF shoots to about the same point of aim and is quieter.

I can't say anything bad about the Mod. 48. I've got an 18, a 19 and a 48. All fit in my diamond D chest holster perfectly. I like the K frame guns.
