629-2 Mountain Revolver.
Picked up a 629-2 Mountain Revolver today. One of the original 5000. Came with the original Pachmayrs and a set of cocobolo finger groove combat stocks.
The seller had the original two boxes of ammo he had purchased for it when he bought it. I finished firing the last 20 magnums, and the last 15 specials.
Sweet!

I almost passed it up.
'Snapping Twig' - who was talking about a pistol that shoots bullets the size of trash cans - mentioned that the recoil from the mountain revolver was worse than the pistol he was discussing.
I didn't know what to expect as I had never fired a .44 before, but I found the recoil wasn't all that bad. I could control the .44 mag well enough, but the .44 special was definitely nicer to shoot. (I think I may be near the peak of my recoil absorption.)
I think I might load .44 special velocity in the .44 mag cases and save the full house stuff for special occasions.

I too have one of those. I definitely find the .44 specials easier to shoot, if I am doing a lot of shooting. I don't know about yours, but mine will absolutely drill them when I shoot the .44's. Only draw back is I am small, 5'6, and my small hands find the grips to be a bit on the big side. I have to look for some new ones.

Forthcoming.
Canada has a variation on the 3 day rule. We use 30 days (or so) of bureaucratic bungling and red tape before you get actual possession of the weapon when you buy it to ensure public safety.

Great pick-up!
Try 7g W231/HP38 under a 250g cast SWC, You're going to like it.
Try 22g W296/H110 under a 429244 (265g from WW) and let me know how they feel.
That's what I'm running in mine.
Just switched to wood Hogue, finger, smooth from the rubber Hogues I had on it, should improve the feel. Fills my hand better.

Does this mean that W296 is the same powder as H110? And that W231 is the same as HP38? I have been looking for H110 and have passed up W296.

You should post some pictures of it. Would like to see it.
The -2 M629 Mountain Gun was a a product code 103652. When the -3 came out it switched to 103653. The -4's PC was the same as the -3. With the -5 is changed again to 104200 in the late '90's. At that point everyone got bored with product code variations and quit reading....

Correct.
Same stuff, different labels.

Except the HP38 and H110 seem to be $3 or $4 cheaper a pound.
YMMV.

Correct.
These days you grab what you can, but in times of plenty you can be choosy.
