Md 15, Buy it Now or Wait?
Let me say first that I don't buy guns online. My LGSs and pawn shops do a great job of draining my gun budget.
For about a year I've been on the watch for an excellent condition Md 15 with a 4 inch barrel. And wouldn't you know it but two have become available to me. The first is a 4 inch barrel version in decent condition but has ill fitting factory Target stocks. The gun is just not quite as nice as I would like. The second is a Md 15-4, square butt with a 2 inch barrel. The condition is excellent and it has numbered to the gun stock magnas. Neither have the box etc.
I really wasn't in the market for a snub, but wow, I really like the look and feel of this gun. The 4 inch model just doesn't meet my condition standards. What would you do? I'm really tempted to buy the 2 inch model and continue waiting for just the right 4 incher.
You know, while putting the above thoughts to actual writing, I think I've made up my mind. Buy the snub and wait for a better 4 inch version. I can afford both so what the heck! Also, I assume but have no real knowledge that the snubs are more difficult to find.

As they say on the TV show "American Pickers," the time to buy something you want that you don't come across often is when you see it. Go for the snub.

I do not know why people think things like this are bound to show up "down the line somewhere"...
Things that are collectable and no longer made tend to have a pretty short life on a sale shelf and can be GONE for years if you wait.
If you find an older gun that really calls your name and you won't be starving the bay to buy it, buy it. I have waited decades for a second chance to buy a pistol that I had once and sold, and I'm not the only one here, I am sure.
I have not seen a Model 15 snub for sale in the flesh since the early 1980's, and since I'm 67 years old, I might not see one again.
Buy it!

attn dogngn: Thanks for the 'like.' At least the OP has some kind of selection. Out here, the only used revolvers for sale seem to be the ones tumbled around in cement mixers. And which are still offered for jewelry store prices!

P.S. I haven't seen a 15 snub either.

You won't regret the snub. I was kind of unsure about my M15 snub. I shoot it better than a couple of my 4in barreled revolvers. It is easily the most accurate 2in revolver I have ever owned. Plus it carries really well IWB....and I will admit to feeling like an old detective when I carry it. Joe Friday kinda stuff

I purchased a Model 64-4 earlier this year for kind of the same reasons. The gun was in great shape, almost new, and priced to sell. But I wasn't looking for a 2" .38.
Bought it because I doubt I'll find another at the I price paid, in great condition. K frame .38s are great.

If you find something you like at a reasonable price, go for it. I also own a 2" SB 15 and it is a really neat gun.

Yes, I am pretty lucky for having a decent selection from which to choose. Right now one LGS has a 14-2, 15-2, a couple of 686s and a Ruger Speed Six in 9mm. Last week they had a Md 57 in nickel. There are also a few good pawn shops that often have something of interest. Just a couple of months ago I found a ca. 1961 Md 34 Kit Gun with a 2 inch barrel.
Thanks everyone for giving me your blessings. I knew the correct answer but it sure helps when you get positive encouragement. I know I'll find that fine Md 15, 4 incher one of these days but when will I find another K frame snub? As stated above, maybe never!

I personally think that a 15, 2" looks so darn cool! Members have stated here that they are as accurate as a 4". Don't know. Wish I had 1. Bob

You won't regret the "snub", no one told them they aren't target guns.

Correct decision in my opinion. Wish I had local shops with used guns that aren't polymer.

NO CONTEST ON M15 4" VS 2"
BUY IT NOW, POST HASTE, MUY RAPIDO, YESTERDAY, GET MY DRIFT. IF YOU DID SHOP ONLINE YOU WOULD REALIZE HOW FEW OF THESE EXIST AND HOW OFTEN THE COMMENT REGARDING A 2" IS HOW MUCH THEY HAVE THE ACCURACY OF THE 4" WHICH I WOULD ALSO BUY FOLLOWING YOUR PURCHASE OF THE 2". IF YOU TAKE THE TROUBLE TO CHECK THE NUMBER OF 2" LISTED ON GB IT IS COMMONLY UNDER TEN. THE 4" WILL MORE COMMONLY BE 50. YOU DIDN'T MENTION PRICE BUT THAT IS ANOTHER FACTOR, THE 2" WILL ALWAYS HAVE A BIG EDGE DUE TO DESIRABILITY AND THE LIMITED NUMBER OUT THERE. RUN DON'T WALK, YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE YOUR TIME TO FIND THE RIGHT 4" TO FIT YOUR NEEDS BUT NOT SO IN THE CASE OF THE 2". HERE IS A 15-2 I FEEL FORTUNATE TO HAVE FOUND IN SPITE OF SOME UNSCRUPULOUS SELLER STEALING THE ORIGINAL DIAMOND MAGNA GRIPS, AND YES I DO CONSIDER IT NOT ONLY THEFT BUT GREED, FUNNY HOW THEY ALWAYS FOLLOW ONE ANOTHER. GOOD LUCK
THE FULL BARREL ON THE -2 GIVE THIS SNUBBIE REAL STUD APPEAL. I JUST PURCHASE THE -4 AND HAVE YET TO RECEIVE IT BUT FROM THE PHOTOS IT APPEARS TO NOT HAVE THE SAME FULL BARREL AS THE -2. I INTEND ON TRYING A PAIR OF AHRENDS BOOT GRIPS IN BUBINGA TO REPLACE THE MAGNAS IT WAS SHIPPED WITH INSTEAD OF SHELLING OUT THE RIDICULOUS PRICES THEY WANT FOR THE DIAMOND MAGNAS.

How much is happiness ......$550.00 and worth every penny!
Can't wait for photo's. Give it a cleaning and a coat of wax, Johnsons Paste wax or good automotive wax, will make it look real good!
Congratulations...Gary

Can't wait for the pics. It's all about what something is worth to you. I am betting when you take it to the range you will be shocked. Mine shoots well with any weight bullet too. Smith and Wesson had some magical rifling going on for this model or something.

Well, good luck hunting one down...but ANY K frame snub it a real find, and with the old K frame smooth trigger they are real shooters!
If I saw one around I would jump on it, too.

Had a guy last year told me a store have a 2 inch m19. Something I wanted so I rushed down only to find it was a beautiful 2 inch 15-4. It's in my safe and it is a great shooter for a snub. Nice to look at too

Model 15's in general are very smooth and accurate revolvers. They were Smith's duty version of the Masterpiece bullseye target revolver, and were called the Combat Masterpiece. An "expert" once told me there were no internal differences between a regular K frame and either of the Masterpiece revolvers, but every M14 and M15 I have ever had was very smooth and had about as good a DA trigger as you can get on a revolver. I have a late M15-7, 4", which is all about as accurate as any revolver I have ever had. IMO, they are really hard to beat.
