Model 14-5 grips
I bought this model 14-5 at a show Saturday I really like it. I have been looking on the web for info on these I haven't found much just some random photos. I am curious about the grips,I have seen them with grips like mine I will call old style combat and with ones with finger grooves. Did these come either way or has mine had the grips changed.

Yours look like later-style factory target stocks which should be correct for your 14-5.

Welcome! The Target stocks in the photo are of the correct type for the production era. I have seen others with the Combat (fingergroove) stocks. It may have been a "whatever is in the stocks bin" situation when these were assembled.

m-14
My oldest 14-5 came with the regular target stocks like yours, which I like way better than the combat or finger groove style ones that people pay a ton for these days.
You will love the gun though no matter what stocks are on it. I put a new pair of the Hogue monogrip smooth rubber type on a 14-7 roundbut of mine a while back and they are pretty comfortable and allow good control. Dont know if the make them for squarebut models.
You will love the accuracy of your 14 though. Every one I have can shoot 1 hole at 25 yards,( hard for me these days) they are the nicest shooting handgun Smith made IMO, Wish they would come out with the 4" model again so folks could enjoy them. Good Luck Bob.

I shot about 50 round through it Sunday it feels good in my hands and trigger feels nice. Had knee surgery Monday and can't wait to get better so I can run some more rounds through it. Thanks for the information.

14's are great guns! Welcome to the FORUM! I bought a 14-3 last August. It was shipped in 1977. It has grips as yours. What a pleasure to shoot! Enjoy yours! Bob
