ever see ball bearing lockup like this?
I have seen S&W but it on the front of the yoke, but being on top like this, it must be locking into a dimple on the frame under the barrel, and there doesn't seem like there is a lot of metal to be taking away at that location.

That was the most common way to install ball bearing dentent locks on PPC match revolvers. The famous and expensive builder of PPC revolvers, Bill Davis, did his PPC jobs that way. Brownell's sell the tools to do the job.

It looks like the ball locks were installed because the front lockup on the ejector rod has been disabled, or else this would be a Quadruple Lock.

Why yes, yes I have...
I had this done in 1990 by Mag-Na-Port.
This was my original design - no joke. They doubled it, but here's the very original.
It became a catalog item, but it was mine to begin with.

attn Snapping Twig
Hey Twig, what caliber is that snub of yours pictured above? Looks like an N-frame, but I may be incorrect. VERY cool, but I'm not a fan of porting.

Mine was done by Magna Port. A 3" 686 also with a trigger job and bead blasted finish.

I've seen a number of them. It's a pretty common alteration/enhancement.

I have had a couple. One a Model 58. This PPC revolver should have it, as there's no front lock, but at the moment I'm not sure it does. We're not currently in the same location, so can't go look right now...
If the regular front lock is intact, I'm thinking the extras don't help all that much. Otherwise, I'd add 'em to several revolvers.

Also a 629-2.
