Default 1996 686 7 Shot??

Hello.. I am looking at taking this revolver on trade and I am curious of it's value. 6" 686 Nickel Finish 7 shot with serial CBE2778

I know that 1996 was about when they changed some of the parts but can't find any info on weather they made plus 1 with the old school forged parts or not. I am assuming a pre lock non MIM revolver has a better value. looks to be in great shape with a small spot on frame on 1 side.. cant tell if it is fixable from the pic

Thanks in advance for the info!

It's what's called a -4. Open the cylinder and look on the frame behind the yoke. You should see something like "Mod. 686-4". It was the last of the forged hammer and trigger models. It also has the "old style" firing pin riveted to the hammer nose.

Your gun left the factory in June of 1996. It is a fairly early 7-shot, but I've seen them as early as December of 1995, and I'm sure there are earlier ones than that. Your gun is also drilled & tapped for a scope base, the holes are hidden under the rear sight.

A -4 is a desirable variation. The 7-shot is also a plus. If it was a 3-inch you'd be looking at a $1,200 gun. As a 6-incher I'd think something in the range of $600 to $750 depending on location and other factors. Ones like that undoubtedly sit on dealer's shelves at even higher prices.

Cougar, That would be a Stainless gun. And everything the Kernel says. What are you trading for. Theo

A very good condition leupold VX3 6.5-20x50 long range side focus scope with leupold xpr rings and a yellow lens .. pretty nice rig

what do you think that spot is on it in the pic? I assumed nickel cause of that but if polished stainless I might be able to fix it

I honestly set out to trade or sell the optic into a 29 or 629 custom with 8 3/8 barrel and this 357 came up

Once again, the Kernel nailed it.

Depending on what you are trading, that 686 would be worth having.

Well, I think you know it isn't an even trade. But, it might be closer than what I think.

Leupolds are one of the few scopes that DO hold most of their value.
