Default Handled a new S&W M-29 4 inch today

Drove to the city today and went by sporting goods store and saw a brand new S&W M-29. Even though it had an internal firing pin and, of course, "the lock" it was a pretty nice gun. Felt good, looked good and even my wife liked the feel of it. Wasn't as heavy as she was expecting. Had a square butt too (didn't know they went back to square but in their revolvers, that's a big + for me) Even had wooden target grips. Odd thing about that was, the target grips were VERY thin. Felt even thinner than magna grips.

Anyway, it looked like it would make a very decent concealed carry gun with that 4 inch barrel. A .44 Magnum round will do pretty much anything you need it to do and do it very well.

However...the price was like $1047.00 Not that I could buy that right away, but it was still one of the more interesting thing coming off the S&W assembly line in the past 15 years.

Well I have not seen and new ones lately as I am only interested in Pre 1995 S&W's, however you might want to heavily consider another model for CC. The 44 Magnum is a very heavy and bulky gun to be totin' around for any length of time and the Magnum loadings are a bit overkill for any sort of populated setting IMHO. Just saying...........

I just recently purchased one from Bud's. I believe Kentucky gun co has it for about $780 which is less than I paid for mine. I Luv my 29 4".

I would like to get one. Never can find one when I have the dollars to spend though. Not too on to buying off Internet.

A 4 inch barreled revolver is typically what I carry anyway. Whether it's a Colt Official Police, a S&W M-15 or a Colt Python. So an N frame with a 4 inch isn't that big a step up compared to what a lot of people tend to like to carry (compact little .22 pea shooters or maybe even compact .380 or 9mm).

Wow, that sporting goods store I visited really likes theirs then. That's a much better deal.

I hear you on this. I recently started a thread on the grip issue with the new 29s.

Because it seems as though Smith isn't really making them anymore, I came across one and bought it. Love love love it, however, the new walnut stocks are very thin. I haven't yet decided whether or not I like them, as it makes my hand ride higher - but it does seem to help me manage the recoil better with magnum loads. They're pretty too - just feels very different from any other one I have.
