Question For those in the know about the Model 360PD Scandium / Titanium Snubbie

Hello all:

I bought a Model 360PD Scandium/Titanium 357 snubbie last Summer out the door for less than $400 from a local pawn emporium. Of course it was gently used. I have been offered $650 for it by a friend here on the board. So I must have done OK when I bought it.

My question is:

How or where can I find an original box for it? Can this be done by contacting Smith?

Ideas?

Thanks,

rd

You can hit Ebay for cheap used boxes.....it is likely that the factory will sell you a new one, but I don't know if they will re-print a label for it.

The Scandium series are a joy to carry. I bought one of the very first 340's that hit the streets.

The first series of 360SC came in a presentation case. Some of the later 360PD's also had a custom presentation case but most of them came in the new style paper box. A check of the S&W store shows some of the older plastic cases still available but no paper boxes. The problem you will
have is that the new paper boxes are repeatedly marked with the model
as well as on the end label so you will have to find a box that is marked with the 360PD to be correct. I see them on ebay frequently but they are mostly for the Bodyguard models. Good luck on your search.

According to the prices I've seen, you stole that gun!
Good job!

Around here you will pay new+20% for a used gun at most pawn shops.

Cool Sometimes 'Light' is too light.

I had 386PD several years ago that was a real PAIN to shoot either .38Spec or .357. Easy carry but 'one and done'. - 'ole joe.

When I got my 360sc scandium/titanium snubby (predecessor of the 360PD), I shot what was then considered to be full power .357 (Federal 158gr JHP "Hi-Shoks"), but they are considerably below today's full-spec Underwoods, etc. I was originally able to shoot up my 5 carry rounds at the beginning of each range session, and then shoot a box of .38 Special non-plus-P American Eagle FMJ (which felt like .22's after shooting the 5 Hi-Shoks). I didn't use a padded glove then, but on the rare occasion when I shoot the Hi-Shoks in that gun now, I use a padded glove and I can only stand to shoot a couple. (I still use that gun as a BUG, and its 11oz empty weight makes it a dream to pocket-carry.) I wouldn't want to ever shoot Underwood's in it (the gun can probably take it, but I couldn't), but Underwood's are fine in my 3" S&W60-15Pro J-Frame, which weighs about twice as much as the 360sc.

Best to use the "short barrel" loads on the market, as they reduce flash and blast, and recoil, as even if they are a .357, they act more like .38+P.
Absolute power is great, but not if you can't follow up properly.
I have a 340 PD, so I'm not just speculating.

The 158gr Federal Hi-Shoks were fine as far as flash and blast were concerned ... I got the impression that the powder was essentially through burning before the bullet even left the case. The 125gr Hi-Shoks DID have a lot of flash and blast, though ... that's why I didn't use them. The 158gr Hi-Shoks also expanded well, and they were tightly-enough crimped to never show any "bullet-pull", which is an extremely important characteristic in those ultralight .357's.

I had one a couple of years back i bought used in the presentation case. I bought it for the weight and cool factor of Sc Ti. The engineer in me I also sold it a month as it was just too hard to control with .357 mags, Even +P. Its a great carry gun if you can handle it. Box best found on Ebay. The correct one is the trick. Here was the one I owned. Sold it 2 years ago for $675. Those grips were a joke..they are from a 1953 pre model 42. The original Airweight!

Sell it, and smash your hand with a 4 pound sledge. That way, you will have had the experience of shooting it and still make a profit.

I had a 340 Sc for a time. I ended up putting a stainless cylinder in it to get the weight up some so it would be easier to handle +P. Forget about .357 mag. The pain isn't good, but neither is back on target time.
