I desperately need one for my 617-6. I quit buying any new Smiths because of than damned internal lock and I really hate that because there's some new models I'd like to own.
Please, please begin making the plugs!!!

If you decide to make them for a J-Frame I would take one in the SS /grey colored finish.
I bought 2 from John a few years back and they have worked well and were not hard to install.

I would take on in black for a Scandium J frame, and one in bead blasted stainless for a new 66.

Well, not a huge market, but perhaps a viable market. I'm working on the project, getting dimensions and a drawing together. Still going to be a couple of weeks before I can start making a prototype. Have patience. I've got a lot of irons in the fire. This is just one, and it may not necessarily prove to be economically viable. Won't know until I get a few made. Stay tuned for further updates.

Frankly, given what I know of the situation, I fear the worst for John. Anyway, give me some feedback as to the interest in a plug. It might be just exactly like John offered, or might be a bit different. Probably very similar. I'd probably start with the stainless K,L,N and go from there. Give me your thoughts and we'll go from there.

I would be interested in a plug with a stainless matte/bead-blasted finish for a 627 PC, and one with a polished stainless finish for a J-frame.

I'm in for 2 stainless.
One for my 617 (real stainless),, and one for my 642 (stainless in appearance but actually clear coated aluminum as from factory).

I'd be up for a 642 plug. You mentioned it would probably be around current cost. What is that? I never saw the other ones offered.
I understand any price is ballpark and NOT a quote.
Thanks

I could use some N frame ones in flat black and stainless. Even a bead blast stainless would work for both at this point. I do hope you do some in dull stainless and black as it seems like the airweight and scandium type guns are the ones that really need the locks out for functional reasons.

Got a sketch with dimensions done today and ordered some machinable stainless material. Once material is in hand we can see what we can do and what sort of time is involved in making these. I plan to use the existing spring loaded fork for retention. Target cost is in the $30-35 range. Keep in mind that machine work is a bargain at $1/minute. I should know something within a week or two.

If we can get the stainless right, we can do carbon. You may have to do your own blueing. Alternative is to do the plug in black Delron.

Ed: I ordered and paid or a couple that John was not able to deliver. He did refund my money. If you will make them, I'll take three of them.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Is the plug meant to be used on a frame where the internal lock has been removed or does it mate into the key hole on an installed lock?

Once we get the KLN size down pat, the J's won't be far behind. The X frames are a different story. Someone is going to have to provide dimensions. I don't have one to try, and don't really want one. So, if you have a X frame, and a good micrometer, feel free to measure and PM me the results.
