ID of Factory Bobbed Hammer
This is my first post so please excuse me. I have had what appears to be a S&W factory bobbed hammer with checkering. I bought it from a parts and mag dealer at a gunshow at least 10 to 15 years ago. He was a NY Detective in his prior career but unfortunately passed away. He said that it had the checkering on it so it could be cocked if necessary. The width is .265. It has the number 27 stamped in it. Thought it might fit a Model 36 or 60 but it looks to be too wide. Any help in identification as to what model this will fit it would be great.

Somebody did it with a file. Have seen a couple, although not as nicely done as that one! Expect the "checkering" was done by whomever bobbed the spur.

The J frame hammer and trigger are .240 wide and the hammer has a different way to hook the mainspring to the hammer. The K,L, and N frame hammer and trigger are .262 wide. That one will be a K or N frame.

Looks to me like a factory bobbed hammer that someone added the "checkering" to later.

Most factory bobbed hammers were DAO and could not be cocked.
