Default 627 Pro Blew Me Away

Finally found time to take my wife to the range. I normally only practice with my j-frame carry.

This time, I brought my new 627 Pro which has sat in the safe for months, never fired.

We had two j-frames, an M&P40 LE trade-in and the 627 Pro.

As a bedside gun, the M&P40 shot flawlessly. Sights were right-on. ...very happy

Then, the 627 Pro. Just WOW! In spite of the fireball, it was on target and just kept punching tight ragged groups. The best part is the trigger. I would have guessed it to be a PC ...and a good one at that. Hardly noticed recoil or barrel flip. It was fun to click off 8 .357s! Mostly Fiocchi target 142gr, but also finished with a clip of Hydra-Shoks.

Smith got it right with this one. So easy to just keep burning through boxes of .357.

PS: As much as I prefer wood grips, the stock rubber felt perfect. I sold the pictured grips to a member.

The M&P 340 j-frame was different, but I'll make that another post.

I have got to agree with you. My 627 Pro is my most shot gun. I feel like it can take anything I can give it and deliver accurate, smooth shooting results. I liked it so much I bought the 627 PC a few months ago. You know what. The Pro has a much better trigger than the PC. I am trying to remember if it was always this good or if the few thousand rounds through it smoothed out the trigger this much.

The extra inch of barrel on the PC is nice but I am happy to have both.

Factory loads...hand loads...different bullets...different powder....357 or 38 special...my 627 pro shoots them all into a ragged hole. It doesn't stay in the safe very long because it's always being shot. Best money I've spent in a long time. Should buy another as a back up.

Shot 803 357's through my 627 in the last week.

It's my favorite gun.

Are you referring to the SA pull or the DA pull? The SA pull on my 627PC 5" is good but the DA pull isn't any different from a non-PC gun. You'd think with a "PC tuned action" it'd be noticeably better. Just curious.

MarkAlt, I like the feel of the rubber grips best too. Glad you're enjoying it!

Hi Blue, I do very little shooting other than DA. So yes I meant DA trigger pull.
I agree with you that a PC trigger should be better but as I said above my Pro trigger beats it by a lot. I will keep putting rounds through the PC and I hope it gets as good as the Pro.

Since I recently bought a 629 PC Hunter with a 8 3/8 inch barrel, I am now trying to learn the subtleties of SA shooting. BTW this gun has a very light, smooth SA trigger. And the DA trigger is nice too.

Just realized that I never shot it SA!

Yes, the DA squeeze was sweet from round one. I'm guessing it will just get better over time.

My 627 PC trigger went from good to great after a couple thousand rounds. I personally doubt the PC trigger is much, if any, different from regular production. I sure some will argue.

That's funny, I guess I'm the odd one here! I never shoot any of my Smiths double action.

I'm right handed & I use my supporting left hand to re-cock the hammer. It's all I've even done & it just works better for me. Tried to get my son to do it that way & he said he can't do it.

Hi Blue, I am a rightie and I use my left thumb to recock the hammer for SA shooting. I shoot with both thumbs on the left side of the gun. In other words I don't wrap my left thumb over the top of the revolver. I want to have one method of gripping so that if I shoot an auto after a revolver I won't injure myself.

I also have a 627Pro. Am very happy with it and use it in USPSA. While far from the fastest, I did shoot the last 3 stages all "A"s. Very happy with it!

You too, huh? With an exposed hammer gun, I always shoot the first cylinderful SA. I feel, perhaps mistakenly, that it helps to seat the internal parts. Just a feeling...

Love to see the 340MP thread you mentioned. Am considering this gun next.

Appreciate your kind words on the 637 Wyatt thread, Mark.
