Default My 686, something a little different

I'm probably a die hard 1911 fan. I was forced to carry a 92FS Beretta when I flew CH-47's and always wanted something - "more".

So I started collecting 1911, but I always wanted a bit more of a beast. With an interest in the 357's and the 686. Found one in the case at a local gun shop that was begging to go home with someone.

Loved the feel and loved the shooting.

The shots.

First off a WaspCam just does not shoot fast enough at 1080P and 60 FPS for covering the firing of the 686. Not bad for 45's but not this gun. The PMC 158 Gr 357 Magnum ammo does not generate as much flash as the 38 Special +P ammo.

Initial efforts at processing the imagery with QuickTime, did not quite work out. So I pulled out some of my Astroimaging software so I could convert and view the series of images into single frames and review them one at a time. At 60 frames a second some of the shots are interesting. Several frames with a muzzle flash, shows the hammer - in the cocked position.

Guess this shows why you don't hold a wheel gun like an ACP!

Now I need to find a faster camera to rent!

Enjoy,

Bryan

Nice! My very mild 38spl loads make horrendous flames out of my M&P R8 for some strange reason.

That's an artifact related to your shutter speed; in this case it could be as slow as 1/60th of a second.

If you want to see muzzle flash, hand-load a full house load with 296 powder, and shoot it from a snub nose revolver, especially at dusk or dim light. You think lightening flash. Not recommended load for law enforcement or self defense.
