scope for 460 bone collector?
What scope should I buy for the bone collector 460? I will use it for distance up to 100yards. I just bought it but will not be able to shoot it until Oct. It was shipped to Florida and I wont be there until Oct 1st. Any help will be appreciated.

Leupold fixed 4x or variable 2 x 8. Burris variable is another good one.
I use both without any problems.

Do you think 2x is not enough? Is it easier to see locate the target with 2x? I have the 44mag hunter which looks alot like the bone collector but I have a red dot on it. I thought a scope would be better as I an 72 and weigh 155lbs hope its not too much gun for me to handle. I think I will probably shoot casulls for hogs if the recoil is less then the 460 ammo

Thanks Charlies
How much of a difference in recoil is the 460 ammo from casull. I am anxious to shoot but wont be able till I go to Florida in October. I handle my 44 mag hunter without a problem, but am wodering how much of a difference between 44 mag and 460 and cassul?

The popular 2x model scope for handguns seems to be the Leupold 2x version. I have one of these that I use on handguns at times, but the scope is actually 1.75 (book spec.) and when I look through it, it is almost like no magnification. I think it is a decent choice for "smaller" handguns. On a gun with the size of yours, my inclination would be one of the quality variables.

l have a Leup 4x on a 10 1/2'' 460...and a 2x Leup on a 629 Comped Hunter..lnside 100yds a 2x Leup is KING...Larger field of view and 2x does not magnify muzzle movements as much..l shoot the 2x more accurately too.. l swapped the scopes between the 2 guns...l still shot the 2x better.
l did a little drill as well at the range one day while alone... l put up a target at 60yds.. Turned my back on the target with gun in hand. On a signal l turned and tried hitting the target as quickly as possible accurately... l hit the target more often and quicker with the 2x

This is going to sound funny, but is it currently sitting in a gun shop in Port Charlotte? I was picking up my new 686 this week and the owner showed me this awesome Bone Collector that a customer had ordered in, but wouldn't be picking up for a few months.
Coincidence?

Can someone list the items that were included with their 460 Bone Collector. ..I only received the pistol and case. ...Should there have been a sling and swivels, manual, any paperwork, warranty card, unlock keys, fired 460 brass, box, etc. ...Please let me know what I'm missing with my pistol.

Have you considered a dot sight by trijicon or eotech? They are more forgiving of various eye reliefs.

bone collector scope and eye relief ?
I am thinking about Leupold fx11 scope but am wondering is there enough eye relief for the recoil, I am 72 and weigh 150lbs. I dont want to hold it to close to my face, Does anyone have any experience with the scope and recoil?

I shoot a 460 with a 2x Leopold. There isn/t any possible way the scope would hit my face...unless I allowed the recoil and entire revolver to hit me.

I have the burris 3x12-40 on my 12" xvr. The problem is you hold the pistol about 14" from your face vs about 20" shooting through fixed sights. When you scope a big bore you need to be vigalant and aggressively manage the recoil so as to not get face smacked . I have learned to decellerate the recoil and allow the pustol to move upwards as well as rearward. Im basically allowing the gun to arc over the top of my head .

With the size and weight of the Bone Collector and the eye relief of the Leupold 2x20 pistol scope you would have to be pretty committed to getting hit in the face for it to happen. You're not going to get face smacked even with .460 Magnum unless there are unique circumstances such as being brand new to firing big magnum revolvers.
Anyway, if you need to, go out the first time with someone experienced, and start with lightly loaded .454 Casull such as Federal Premium 250 Grain (1,530 FPS) Barnes XPB at 1,300 ft. lbs.; or lighter yet, Cor-Bon Hunter Ammunition 240 Grain (1,400 FPS) JHP at 1,100 ft. lbs.; and then work your way up to the 454 and 460 plus 2,000 Ft. lbs. stuff if you want or need to. If the OP's needs are limited to 100 yards, it's hard to think of many cases in North America where light to medium loaded .454 Casull wouldn't be enough. The lightest .454 Casull starting point I'm aware of is Winchester Super-X 250 Grain (1,300 FPS) Jacketed Hollow Point, with a .44 Magnumesque 938 ft. lbs. In fact, it should kind of be like shooting a .44 Magnum, only less due to the big X-Frame. I'd love for someone to post who could tell us.
The eye relief on the Leopold 2x20 is 18"; on the 2.5-8x32 it is 15". I have experience with the 2x20 and I love it, and it holds your zero flawlessly. When Leupold claims shock-proof they mean it. Not quit as much with the Burris, but then I don't have experience with the Burris HD.
I would have recommended the Leupold 2.5-8x32 except that unless I'm mistaken, the OP just needs this out to 100 yards. If that's the case, the 2x20 would seem to me to be an excellent solution.
I would also recommend considering field of view. With the 2x20 is an adequate 21'. Perhaps one argument in favor of the 2.5x32 is the 37' FOV at 2.5X, and even at 8x, you still have a 13.5' FOV. So even at 4X you're left with a very nice FOV with the 2.5-8X32
My big issue with the 4x28 is the ever-so-narrow 9' FOV.

I shot about 15 rounds of Hornady 200 grain ftx 460s and 20 454 casull 300grain xtp and I thought they would kick much harder. My hand was sore but I guess it was manageable however I hold the pistol straight out and I measured my face to the rear sight and it was 20 inches. If there is only 12 inches of relief I could have a problem. I may be better off buying a red dot. What do you think? I really wanted a scope but am not sure if I can handle it.

There's not 12 inches of relief with a Leopold, it's 18 with the 2x20 and 15 with the zoom.
Just to make sure I'm tracking, that Hornady's Muzzle Velocity is like 2200 fps, right? If so, at 200 grains giving Muzzle Energy 2149 ft. lbs. What in the world would you be throwing that kind of tonnage at within 100 yards beyond Kodiak Bears and their ilk?

I'm good for about 15 rounds then my wrists start getting fatigued. I've learned that when your muscles start to ache, just end the day on a happy note, you don't want to be pushing your fatigue limits or you will pay for it the next day. I'm actually having more fun, less aches and getting more shoot time by downloading. I'm loading 300 gr hard cast SWC's with about 37 gr of Lil' Gun . I'm at about 1700 fps and the kick is relatively mild compared to the stout full bang factory 200FTX's . PM member ruggyh he is the expert on scoped Smith big bores. here's my Burris scoped 12" XVR:

I'm from Volusia County Florida (Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach), and if I'm not mistaken, the wild pigs only run about 150 lbs. there - not the 750 lbs. hogs in places like Eastern Washington. We used to hunt Florida wild pigs in the late 70's West of Ormond Beach off of SR 40 in the Ocala National Forest.
While people with more hunting experience then me might want to chime in here, but with the relatively small size of Florida swine, and your close distance, and recognizing that pigs are physically much tougher than deer, my recommendation would be the .454 Casull. There is no reason to be setting off .460 Magnum bombs on game that size at that distance unless you're aiming to kill two with one shot standing side-by-side :-). With a medium .454 Casull you're well past, very well past a .44 Magnum (excluding the ridiculous .44 Mag +P+).
Anyway, I think in Florida I'd be looking at .454 Casull 250-300 Grain in the 1,700 to 1,800 FPS range. For example, Cor-Bon DPX 250 Grain DPX HP at 1500 FPS. But perhaps my pig choice would be the heavier 300 Grain .454 Casull such as Federal Premium Vital-Shok 300 Grain Swift A-Frame JHP (1520 FPS).
Okay, so I've been a 30-30 hunter as a kid, and a 44 Magnum, .308, and 30-06 hunter since, and just now getting in to big X-Frames, so it'd be great for folks with more X-Frame experience to chime in here since my advice here clearly exceeded my expertise.

red dot or scope for 460
I am a little concerned about using a scope. The eye relief may not be enough for me so if I were to go with a red dot what would hold up for me shooting 460s or 454 casuls. I have an ultra dot on my 44 hunter and its fair. Is there a brand someone has had experience with that can suggest?

You do not hold it close to your face! You push it out as far as your arms will go and lock your wrist! You want to hold the gun with both hands, keeping any part of your hands away from the front of the cylinder. If you do not know how to shoot the gun properly, Please get some help from someone at a range, watch U-tube Videos or take a shooting course. This is not a revolver that you want to experiment with or shoot as your first time at shooting a scoped big bore handgun!!
If you don't know how: DON't!!
