Welcome! Prefix BFA likely dates your 629 to early 1990; if you have the original box we can tell you almost exactly when it was produced.

Someone at S & W can probably give production figures for a particular model, but this is not generally known for very popular modern guns. Older models and those produced in small numbers will often have known numbers produced. Hope this is helpful.

Dear Alan,
when i bought this gun about 18 years ago i unfortunately got no accessories with it - that means that the original box is lost. :-(

I don't think that my 629 is a limited edition for she is exactly the same as shown in SLEDGE HAMMER (Susi) but someone told me that she is an old model which has a cylinder that is different to the new series and therefore very rare...ist that plausible?

Regards,
Paul

The 629-3 was the first model to get the complete endurance package. Also it retains to look of the original in having a square butt, chrome flashed trigger and hammer, and the traditional rear sight. They might have offered a un fluted cylinder and a full lug in later versions of this model if this is what you are referring to.In my opinion this is the best model to own outside the the 629 no dash which is pinned and recessed.
