586 with diamond checkered targets?
A buddy (maybe on here) sent me a photo of his 586 (with a lock) sporting some diamond, checkered, target stocks with the speed loader cut. I was under the impression that the diamonds went out in the '60s sometime, but he thought they were original to his 586.
Can someone set us straight?

Stocks with the diamond went out in the late 60's. Football cut out went away in the very early 80's replaced by the C shaped speed loader cut out. The 586 came with target stocks, but it was too late for the diamond stocks.

They are not footballs, it is the open "C" shape you mention. Definite diamonds, though. Maybe something modified or custom. They look great either way.

Those are just the stocks that are currently used on new guns - you can go onto the S&W website and see them in the product photos. They're not nearly as nice as the old diamond targets, but I will say that particular pair has a good bit better grain than most.

Those are the correct stocks for that classic series 586. I believe those are laser cut and made for Smith and Wesson by Eagle.

I believe these are Altamont laminate wood stocks.
