Anyone attempt a red dot sight on Xframe revolver?
I've purchased a couple of Vortex red dots - a Venom and a Strikefire 2 - to try on my FiveSeven. The Strikefire might work well on my 460V as well, but I'm concerned about it holding up to heavy recoil of the .460 round. Vortex does claim a lifetime repair replacement policy, no matter the cause, but I was wondering if anyone here attempted a red dot on an Xframe, and what the results were.
I'm relatively new to red dots, but my eyes are getting older one on must make concessions...

Try an Allchin mount and a Burris Fastfire III.

About 2 years ago I tried it on my 500 Magnum X. It was a Trijicon. But after a few rounds my dot died. I took it back to The Gun Shop and they gave me another one. It works OK And haven't had a problem since. I will say this though, For real quality shooting go the Burris scope. Use a highend Mount And use four scope rings two in the front two in the back... I get more enjoyment out of using the scope than the red.

Thanks for the helpful info. I'd been leaning away from a larger scope because it would make it more awkward in the backwoods, I think. May I ask which model Trijicon you used? Was it a tube optic or one of the 'mini' style?

Two years ago I hunted whitetail with a 5inch SW460 with a Tasco red dot scope mounted to it and took 2 bucks with it. One at 60yards and the second at 85 yards. It can be done!

How well did the Tasco hold up?

Surprisingly the Tasco held up well thru the "sighting in" and the subsequent hunting trips. I was told before I tried it that the Tasco probably wouldn't hold up to the recoil but it did. That says alot for a $100 scope!

I'm a bit surprised lol. One reason I'm willing to try the Vortex on the 460 is because of their unlimited lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, the Venom I ordered is on a two to four month back order. They've gotten popular.
I've read elsewhere that the Deltapoints have held up well to the Xframes' punishment. That might be another option, if I can't wait for the Venom.

Nope, just got corrected. Good at 100 feet in... I'm sure with practice maybe 150 feet?

Thank you sir.
Just came back from the range having sighted in the Strikefire 2, zeroed at 20 yds, using a UM3 mount on my FiveSeven. I'll do a range report tonight, with better photos, and my first impressions of a red dot system. Here's a couple iPhone photos as a prelim:

Actually, the velocity will be slower than what I used. Probably will drop 3" below aim point at 150 yds and peter out quickly after that.

Try an Ultra Dot. Many bullseye pistol shooters use these mounted to the slides of their target 1911's. I have one on my 629. They hold up well and have a lifetime warranty.

Update:
Found an excellent price on a Leupold DeltaPoint 7.5 from B&H for $299. I'm nstalled it on the 460V. The triangular 'dot' seems large, but one can use the apex of the triangle for precise aiming. Quite nice, actually. The automatic brightness was something that concerned me, but it's done fine in all lighting conditions. Have to remove the optic to replace the battery. Lastly, you have to loosen and re tighten two set screws every time you want to adjust the aim point, BUT - it's held up to 100 rounds of .45 and .460 ammunition with no drifting of zero. I suspect the set screws are the reason the optic is so durable.
Overall - I found I love the red dots. I put a FasTFire 3 on my FiveSeven, as well. Very precise at 25 yards, which I use as my zero point. Much easier on older eyes than iron sights and more accurate at distance. The FF3, with mount, was only $19 cheaper than the Deltapoint. The DeltaPoint came with a picantenny mount. Fivesevenreddot.com has an Xframe mount for $60. But I already had a rail for the 460, so I used it. Next project is to shorten the rail - cut it down - so I can make the holster fit the combo.

Another update:
Took the 460 back out today. Last time I shot, I zeroed the DeltaPoint at 25 yards using .45 caliber rounds. The 460s went low and right a couple of inches. I didn't make any adjustments - I want to shoot the 460s awhile and watch for drift. Below are some groups.

Using some low powered cowboy 45LC rounds - not very consistent rounds. Edited to note the thumbnails are sideways for some reason...

It's funny - the .454 Casulls are more brutal, in my opinion, than the 460s. It's like they have more torque, and cause slight discomfort in my hand. They shot high...

Can't tell if there's a bit of drift, or if it's just my shooting. I won't make any sight adjustments until I put a few more boxes of 460s through it, and watch for drift.

Hope you enjoy your setup. FWIW, I had installed a Weigand rail and an EOTech 512 on my XVR. Everything held up OK and stayed on target, but I ultimately found what I have found with all optics/handgun setups - it makes the gun a bit clumsy and unwieldy and takes away from the advantage of being a handgun to begin with. My eyes are far from young, yet my XVR reverted to the gold bead front sight - I do pretty darn good with that, though I do understand the capabilities of the XVR extend well beyond the range I will use that bead sight for. Now if I could just find an unported insert to help out with that nasty muzzle blast!

I'm no longer consistent much past 15 yards with iron sights. The Deltapoint doesn't interfere with acquiring the weapon or the sight picture. Much quicker on the latter for me, these days. The rounds were fired one after another as the recoil abated, and the 460 rounds held 2.5 to 3 inch groups. Kind of irritating the 454 group was under 2", being my least favorite round....

It's funny I'm reading this as I have been contemplating trying out my Vortex Strikefire II on my 12" XVR. The problem I'm having with my current Burris 3-12x glass is #1 I've ran out of elevation getting out to 200 meters, and 2nd is the fact I only have about 12" of eye relief and that means you have to hold the pistol close to your face, and with the 460XVR's you BETTER have a firm arm lock so as not to get whacked in the forehead with the frame. I'm thinking my Strikefire can handle a much longer eye relief and thus present a more distanced (safer) hold. My only concern with my dot is the wicked recoil presenting elevated stresses on the dot.

Has anyone tried mounting one of the flatter rifle lasers onto the Weingard?
I have the 460xvr with the 8-3/8 inch barrel and want to mount a laser near the hammer. Any comments much appreciated. Thanks.

I put a Primary Arms Advanced Microdot on my 500. So far, after I shot 35 rounds, I figured I better take a break.
