Default Most Recent Acquisition, 629-3

I was happy to pick this up on GB recently. I took a chance and chose "Buy it now" at $790. The gun cleaned up great, even though it appeared the previous owner had no idea how to remove the cylinder. Now I just need the right stocks. It should be a great shooter.

Looks good to me! I think that G.B. is a good place to buy used guns. You just need to be selective, like anywhere else. I have been satisfied + with my purchases there. Enjoy your 629! Bob

My experiences with buying guns on GB have all been good, too. But you have to ask the right questions and have a good idea of what to look for in the pictures. I bought a 686-4 that had marks on the frame below the cylinder that lined up with the cylinder stop groove. It turned out that somebody had been slamming the cylinder closed and spinning it, which caused the metal at the edges of the cylinder stop grooves to have a sharp edge. The sharp edges then left the marks on the frame each time the nimrod slammed the cylinder shut.

Nice revolver. Congrats! Dont toss the Hogue Monos though. They may not look as sweet as wood but if you shoot it the Monos really soak up recoil.
That gun looks good, all business.

Default Well!

I have those grips on my 629 classic hunter and although they are not real pretty they sure are easy on your hands. I really need them these days because recoil is not as much fun as it used to be!

Not bad at all. Looks like one from the late 1980's. . .not sure 'cause I didn't check the book. Right now we are seeing a lot of Smiths from the 1980's on the market because the owners are all aging out. This is a great opportunity to pick up on Smith & Wesson's last great decade of revolvers. I saw this happen with the guns of the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. . .they were for sale everywhere and for cheap. . .not any more. I have found myself investing a lot more in the 80's guns this past year.

S&W informed me that the "birthdate" of my 629-3 Classic,BPN82XX, was August 23, 1993. Yours may be around that time period but thats just a guess.
