Russian TulAmmo in Smith 686
There is cheap Russian steel cased ammo from the Tula company available right now. Has anyone had any experience with this ammo in a modern Smith revolver? Extraction problems, etc? I have shot plenty of that stuff out of stock 1911 in both .45ACP and 9MM with no problems. Could be different out of a revolver. Thanks for replies.

Or even this?
Won't hurt a thing.

No criticism intended, but I have to ask......
Why in God's name would you want to put cheap c#*p steel-cased ammo through a fine, expensive gun like a 686 ?
You have a nice revolver. Why not use good ammo ? It isn't cheap, but then, nothing is these days.

You won't hurt it.
I wonder if it's Boxer primed, like their .45 ACP ammo.
If so, I need to buy some.
There is nothing wrong with cheap range-blasting ammo, so long as it is properly loaded.
The .45 ammo I've had from Tula was a bit dirty/smoky, but functioned perfectly. I would buy it again.

357 steel cases
Have not tried TulAmmo 357 Steel Cartridges yet.
I too have been shooting my S&W 686 357mag lately.
Some one did, at the best indoor shooting range,
Smoking Gun & Training Center here in Rapid City South Dakota.
I asked the Staff if I could have 6 empties. I am going to
see how they reload. Going to try Lead bullets, and probably
Alliant Unique powder first.
I expect reloading will be like the five 223 steel I've been
trying.

I've only ever run Tula or Wolf thru combloc guns like AKs and SKSs. Although it may be ok in a S&W, I wouldn't put it thru mine. Just a personal thing- good, brass cased ammo isn't pricey enough for me to switch to bulk, steel-cased Russian stuff (which I buy in bulk in 7.62x39).

Tulammo shot fine out of my Glock 17, 19, and 26 pistols back in July.
My lungs are nearly clear of the trash I inhaled during that shooting session.

But how will you hurt it? Most of it is underpowered so it's not going to tare up your barrel and there is no extraction/ejection like in a semi auto

Great point, Kframer! Actually I load all of my .38 specials on a Dillon 550B (158 grain Berry's pushed by 3.5 grains of Bullseye). I shoot a lot (IDPA SS Class, Revolver Division) and if I ever get lazy about reloading I was just curious about the functionality of the steel cases in a revolver. I probably will never do it, as I can reload cheaper and better ammo myself.

I've run the Russian ammo thru my AK and 1911s with only one problem....my indoor range doesn't want steel casings now! I guess they're too lazy to run a magnet thru their brass money hole. No performance issues from the semi-auto ammo though.
Smiths are tough. I think they'll handle Commie ammo without a flinch.

I wouldn't but that's only because I'd want the cases for reloading. If it's in a brass case, and boxer primed, I'd use it.

Reloading steel cases
FYI, I have successfully reloaded Tulammo and Wolf .223 cases that were Boxer primed. It was just like reloading brass cases. I don't intend to make a regular habit of this, but it is nice to know that it is possible. I imagine straight walled revolver cases would be easier yet.
