Holster wear
I have a 686 PC 2.5 inch. Wondering if my leather holster is going to wear off the letters on the front both sides of my bbl. Anyone have pics of a 686 or 627 snub with holster wear? Thanks.

Nope. Not an issue with stainless handguns. Should be fine.

The only parts that will wear over time (from holster wear) is the very tip of the muzzle and the sides of the cylinder. Just normal wear and tear.

Black Etched Lettering
Will the black etched lettering wear off on sides of bbl?

Can't answer that. All my revolvers (pre 1994) are Roll Marked, NOT painted, etched or printed so I have no experience with that.
If I had to guess I'd say it is probably somewhat durable, but all depends on how many times you draw and re-holster your gun and how much you rub it against the sides of the holster.
If this is your every day self protection piece than you need to look at it as a tool and not a show piece. ANY GUN carried EVERY DAY will show wear, nicks, minor dings and that is just the way it is.
I have many guns but categorize them differently. Regarding my dedicated carry guns, I never worry about them getting worn from holster wear. The Target guns and collectible guns I own rarely - if ever see the inside of a holster. Out of all the guns I own, only 3 get carried. A M60-7 (EDC) , a M65-3 (woods gun) and a M63 (companion while in the Fields Pheasant Hunting - for Squirrels). Those three are Stainless Steel but all others are 97% Blue and a few (3%) in Nickel for good measure.

Holster wear adds character to the firearm and indicates it is carried frequently. Not a bad thing.

You made me curious, so I checked the new PC686-6 Plus that my husband got me for Christmas. There is plenty of holster wear to the bead blast finish. The edges of the flats on the slab sided barrel, the front of the cylinder, and the front of the frame have noticeable wear. The lettering on the slab side barrel is still intact, but the wear seems to be creeping toward it.
I carry it IWB while playing golf, averaging two rounds (about 7 hours) a week. And OWB riding on my husband's motorcycle about three hours a week. I switch out the holsters often as all my 686's use the same holster.
None of my guns are collectors items in my mind and it will never be sold, so the wear is inconsequential.

I have a PC 627 UDR (2.625" Barrel) that has been coming in and out of a Galco Combat Master since I started competing with it around 2009. I can't tell any difference between it and the second 627 UDR I bought this year.
But as bigwheelzip said above, "None of my guns are collectors items . . . and it will never be sold, so the wear is inconsequential." My weapons are tools not jewels.
