Default S&W model 940-1 ammo

I have an S&W model 940-1 I have on my permit. Good shooter and easy to carry. Although not rated for it, is a few rounds of +P Ammo likely to break anything?

No, should do fine. The only issue some of those guns have is difficulty to extract the empty's due to case expansion which is fairly common for that model.

Great revolvers.

I rechambered mine for 38 Super

Since autoloader cartridges headspace on the moon clip, they can now shoot:
38 Super
38 ACP
356TSW
9x21
9x19
9x17
and others that are not coming to mind at the moment

9MM+P is no big deal to these revolvers

I hold off on 9x23 except in the -2 engineering revision which is built on the J-Magnum frame

Default Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think there would be a problem. I've never had any case extraction issues with some pretty hot 9mm. As I said mine is a dash one. Now to try out my 640 ND stamped +P+

Actually not too painful unless you hammer out a mess of +P+ rounds. I've carried and shot such beasties for years.

I have seen several chronograph tests, on this revolver.

It is amazing how high the velocity is, compared to a semi-auto.

One would think the barrel/cylinder gap, would result in slower velocities, but that is not the case. They are actually higher, in most/all cases, compared to a 4" auto.

For some reason, the 940 seems to "bite" my hand worse than most any other revolver. I think it is the higher pressure of the 9mm, and the short barrel.

Likewise. At the recommendation of several savvy folks, I am getting some standard pressure 147 grain ammo (gold dot) to carry in it, in part due to the snappiness, in part due to the extraction. My cylinder was honed perfectly by a member here, and even then still has some issues. I had some work done on it by a Andy Horvath, and he told me that even though it is well honed, he had the same issue. He found lower pressure ammo to be a good choice. I could maybe have the cylinder replaced by S&W, but for the use I make of this revolver, that's not worth the money and time.

Part of it is do to the cylinder providing a longer "tube" than just the barrel. It's for an LCR 9mm but he explains it better than me.
