The Final Chapter of My Cracked Frame 37
My Model 37 with the Cracked Frame under where the barrel fits into the frame came to a good end today.
S&W Warranty Division sent me a new Model 642 to replace my broke frame Model 37. The People at S&W were stand up guys to deal with, especially Larry. They were professional and courteous and were very up front in reapairing the revolver or not being able to. There was no run around from them, just straight talk.
To all the guys and gals out there thinking of buying a new handgun, you can't go wrong with S&W. The little bit of extra cash you spend on a S&W is money well spent if you have a problem with the gun. Hopefully you won't, it the first time I've had to send a S&W in for work in 62 years and I've been shooting S&Ws since I was five.

Did they give you a choice on a lock, or no lock?

That is very good news. Enjoy your new gun (whether it has a lock or not -- to some people that is the only issue).

The name "Larry" seems to come up often lately here when folks deal with returns to the factory. He apparently knows his business and is helpful in the extreme.

John,
It had a lock on it, but I've already removed that and it has a plug in it now.
I don't trust "the lock." I don't believe they make 642 without locks now.
I have one of the last batch of 642s that were made without locks.
I they are still making them without locks, I should have ask.

John,
I looked it up on the S&W Web Page and sure enough they make a no lock 642. Should have looked it up or ask before I made my decision.
Such is life.

Hey Partner! Glad you got this BUG situation sorted out. It's getting uglier out there and few things are worse than a BUG/off-duty that you can't rely on or have doubts about. As to the lock/no lock issue, I don't think in a matter like this that you can, as they used to say, "look a gift horse in the mouth." And you've already gotten past this.
Active or retired, watch your 6 and stay safe.

P.S. Dig your take on "everyday is Saturday." For me, the 3 basic ?s in life are: Is it Friday yet? Is it payday yet? Is it time to go home yet?
