Default base torque spec SW500

I am trying to find out how many in/lbs I should torque the factory supplied base on a SW 500 7.5 " barrel performance center model.

I attempted looking in the supplied manual which provided no torque specs. I then called customer service and they advised they do not have any torque specs. The customer service representative told me to simply turn until tight. I thought I may as well post the issue and hopefully somebody has a clear answer.

The link shows the firearm in question and where the base is mounted via three screws. The performance center model has a different base than the standard model.

Product: Model S&W500

thanks for reading and for any responses

I'm guessing here, but with the base on the barrel rib, I'd guess around 50 In/lb. I'd also use some blue lock-tight. Basically, tighten until real snug. The fact the factory has no specs on it tells you it isn't critical.

Use the SAE standard for the size threads and the material.
If they are the black supplied screw they are grade 8.

If you use Loctite (blue 243) remember a little goes a long ways.

all the year been working on firearms, and spending time at 3 different factories ,learning and training and building their guns, I have NEVER seen of , nor heard of torque specs for any firearm screws, maybe barrels to receivers....now car and truck engines and transmissions, absolutely...........,snug, tight and if loosening issues ,a dab (drop) of Loctite , or even clear fingernail polish...........

Almost all the manufacturers now recommend torque values for rifle guard screws when you are dealing with rifles. Almost all the scope base manufacturers now list torque values for their bases. For those that don't, I use the values that Midway recommends with their FAT wrench.

I'd call S&W back and ask to talk to someone in the Performance Center. If they can't help you, Leupold recommends 15-17 in/lbs for their base screws. That's where I'd start.
