Default 686 CS-1 357 mag

I just purchased a 686 357 mag CS-1 M stamp. It does not have the 3" barrel. Serial number AYU0771 does anyone know if there was a 2.5" barrel one produced? Is the frame correct date for CS-1 1988?

Someone could have had the barrel changed for the 2 1/2"

The only way you will know for sure is contacting S&W Customer Service or requesting a Historical letter on the firearm

Shame

Default CS-1

Here's a pic of my 4" CS-1 (original stocks are in the box) with the box and end label visible. My serial# ANS3915. It would appear that the serial#s for CS-1 revolvers are spread out during their production run. Mine is one of the overrun revolvers that dates to 1988. If you have the serial# matching box you can check the product code on the end label. Product Code 104228 is for the 3" version and 104229 is the 4" version. I've never seen or heard of one with a 2 1/2" barrel. It would appear at this point that the barrel has been swapped out. Only a factory letter will confirm what configuration it left the factory as.

I've got a 3" one. Likewise; I never seen or heard of a 2.5" CS-1. My guess is like the others; re-barreled or someone stamped the CS-1 on a standard 2.5" 686.

Looks to be a legitimate CS-1 stamped frame. Finding a 3 or 4" barrel from a CS-1 (with the narrow black front sight blade) may be a challenge should you want to restore it to original configuration.

That hurts... I have a 3" CS-1 2M that was built probably in that same batch AYU10xx... my dad bought it "new"... I know this is a loaded statement... but a half inch doesn't make that much difference... only thing that might make sense is it may have started life as a 4" and someone wanted the short version and could not find a 3" barrel which wasn't cataloged at the time.
