New Herrett's Stocks
Today has been a good day. Opened my mailbox to find that my first two sets of Herrett's arrived. I have to say they absolutely fit my hand perfectly. I have read some people complaining about how they always seem to be too big for them. I have rather small hands and even going with some of their thicker designs (covered back straps) they fit absolutely perfect and I have no issues reaching the hammer or trigger. They truly feel made for my hand.
Here's are both sets of stocks as I received them. These are their oil finish with no upgrades. One set has an extremely nice grain.

Anyways on to the good stuff. Shown here is my 686-5 wearing Jordan Troopers and my 629-5 wearing Custom Shooting Masters.

Very nice. Are they Ropers or Jordans?
ETA: And how long was turnaround?

Do they still offer checkering on them as an option? That's some very nice wood!

Thank you! The 629 is wearing Shooting Masters and the 686 is wearing Jordan's.
I was quoted 10 weeks when I placed the order. Received them in a little less than 8.

Very nice grips! I've always been partial to Herrett's stocks and find they are very comfortable for long range sessions - and look good too.

Yes they do on certain models -- not Jordans, though. Check their website for specifics.

Could you describe the felt differences between the Jordans and the Shooting Masters?

That would be a tricky one given that both guns are different frame sizes. The Jordan's do seem to flare out a bit more at the bottom. Both are covered backstrap models (Shoot Master is also available with an open back) I can't explain it technically but I will say that the Jordan's feel better to me personally but once again it's not really a controlled test given that they are different frames haha. The Jordan's also fit absolutely perfect with absolutely zero manipulation or modification. The Shooting Masters took me about two hours of finagling to put on and I'm still not 100% happy with how they line up BUT that very well could be a variation in my 629's frame..... The stocks themselves are of the highest quality and I'm already considering ordering another set for my Mountain Gun.
The hand tracing really makes a huge difference. They really couldn't be closer to a perfect fit to my hand.

Here's another shot that shows the backs a little better.

Very Nice! I am also a Herrett fan. I have 3 or 4 sets of their target grips. These are my favorite. I pick them up used. Bob

Are the Jordan stocks an actual design of the great Bill Jordan? If so wouldn't the Jordan stocks be the most appropriate for a SW model 19. If your the sentimental sort this combination would be a homage to Mr. Jordan. I know that Bill Jordan had a very large set of hands. I wonder if this influenced the design of the Jordan stock? I've never been able to get too enthusiastic about the skip-line checkering that Herrett's uses, but that's just me, I guess. On the other hand, that pair on the far right of the group CWH44300 posted REALLY gets my heart going!

The grips on bananaman's 28 are called Shooting Stars. Used several sets on duty guns down through the decades. Use their Roper stock, checkered now. Outside of Keith Brown, Herrett's walnut choices are great with lots of grain and intrigue in the finished product. Been purchasing Herretts since 1971.

Wow now that's some eye candy! I have shot the Jordan's on my 686 and absolutely love them even for SA. They are a perfect fit. Unfortunately I am having to send my SM's back for some frame fitment issues (not flush) but I'm sure they'll fix me right up.

I've been thinking of getting Herretts for my 686. Not sure which style to go with. I like to shoot double action, so trigger reach is important. I also like to shoot magnums on occassion, so recoil control is important. I need clearance for speedloaders also. I've tried a bunch of off the shelf grips, but nothing has really worked for me. Covered back strap rubber grips usually make the trigger reach too far for good double action control, and open back strap grips pound the web of my thumb with all but the weakest loads. I like the custom shooting star, but I wonder if a covered back strap would be better? The covered backstrap just worries me that I wont be able to reach the trigger in double action. Those of you with Herretts, can you offer some advice?

For your situation my opinion is to go with Ropers with speed loader cutout but made with a closed backstrap. That should work perfectly for you.
