Okay so I have made the statement that my 5 inch model 27-8 is probably the only carbon steel 8 shot Model 27 in Europe. I was wrong.
I just found a 3 1/2" Model 27-8 that's been DEACTIVATED and is for sale in the UK.... Unbelievable, I know.

Not to hijack, but I thought this might fit here better than anyplace else.
I don't see these for sale very often, so thought I'd share. Reserve finally met yesterday, here's a closed GB auction for 4" M27-7:

In the ad it states that it's one of 50 produced. Bangers ordered 100 of each barrel length (4 and 6 1/2 inch) not 50... However, I have been known to be wrong.

I saw that. I think seller is misinformed and ad is wrong.

I have a question/observation about the SCSW 4th in the 27-8 section at the end of the description it gives a couple mysterious product codes to me. What about the others, has anyone seen one of those 8 3/4 inch 8 shots? It talks about bright blue and blue too. Any input?

So going on to the 27-8 section at the end of the description it gives quite a few mysterious product codes to me. 170310 and 170311 could be model 27-7s (the nickel 4 and 6 1/2 inch 8 shot product codes). Then again, the 4 inch and 6 1/2 inch blue product codes are different than what the Bangers blue product codes are. What about the others, has anyone seen one of those 8 3/4 inch 8 shots? Just because a SKU was assigned, does not mean revolvers were produced.

Bangers only produced 2 of the variations they had originally contracted for, both were blue. I do not know what the issue was that split Bangers and S&W apart, but none of the other revolvers were ever produced.

So far there have only been 6 variations of carbons steel, 8 shot, Model 27s manufactured by Smith and Wesson. Two came from Bangers and 4 came from Lew Horton

Here is one of each variation. All 6 revolvers in this photo bear the same serial number with different prefixes.

Thanks, I realized after I had posted that about the nickel Bangers 4 and 6 1/2" that they never made them. Just wasn't sure about the product codes under the 27-8 section that aren't 170271, 170272, 170308 and 170309 (because those were produced for Lew Horton). That 8 3/4" product code caught my eye and don't ever remember seeing one.

Here's my 27-7 that was custom built by S&W Performance Center for Bangers in 2000.

Mine is #84 of the 100 with 6.5" barrels produced.

The 27-7 also has the distinction of being the only 8-shot Model 27 ever made without "The Lock".

I've cleaned it up a bit since I posted those pictures.

For some reason I'm actually quite fond of it.

I think its beautiful.

Some very nice examples listed in this thread. Here’s a pair of my most recent 8- shooters.
5” 627-3 and 4” 27-7
Both are low round/low mileage.

I got my 27-7 from my brother. I read a post here in the forum where he commented that he never fired his in the hopes to one day trade it for a 4" 27-7.

As you can see that never happened. I'm more than happy with it having the 6 1/2" barrel.

Another fan of the 627PC. It’s my only remaining Smith with the superfluous belly button - even with its birth defect I still
love it. The trigger is soooo smooth. To my mind, the 8-shot cylinder is the most meaningful and practical improvement to the N frame revolver world in the past 80 years.

Default 8 shot revolvers

i like what you did with the "pinto" look CH4. looks sharp.

kind of takes your eye off the belly button with the extra detail going on.

Those 8-shots sure are special. I wish I would find one in 4" or under without the internal lock. A difficult quest, beeing in Europe.

Default 8 shot revolver thread

I love all of the photos posted so far.

Here's the one and only 8 shot in my collection.

this one happens to be the first serial numbered 2 5/8" 627 off the production line. HMA0001

Three batches of the pre lock 627's were manufactured with the
2 5/8" barrel.

the first batch had the pre fix HMA, the second MCD and the last batch was JBS.

Here is the letter I requested from Earl at Lew Horton.

Thanks

I was getting tired of the increasing holster wear to the matte finish on the cylinder, so I sent the cylinder, ejector rod and Ed Brown cylinder release to my buddy at H and M black nitriding. I also like the pinto look.

My 627-5 is pretty ho-hum compared to most on here. Still keeping my eye out for a no-IL or odd variant IL gun (like the 327PD or JM).

Any thoughts on current (2020) value on the 27-7 with a 6 1/2" barrel. I haven't seen any on auction sites in a long time. I guess there just aren't enough of them in circulation to figure out what they might be worth.

I didnt find it but seems GB had a 6.5" 27-7 fairly recent (month or so back) that went for $3K+ IIRC. Seems like neighborhood of $3300???
