Default TK customs moonclip 9mm conversion on 340... will it still shoot .38 and .357?

Gents,

I will be sending my J frame's cylinder off to TK shortly to have the moonclip conversion done. I was looking at the option to rechamber to fire 9mm. If that option is executed, can I still fire .38 and .357?

If anyone has experience with this I would appreciate their input. I have an email pending to Tom but would like outside experiences as well.

I like the idea of cheaper range ammo, plus the range of sd ammo that 9mm offers. Not sure about velocity losses, or effect of accuracy, etc.

My 9mm 360J is now a convertible!

I'd talk to that guy.

As I understand it, you can still fire them in the 9mm cylinder but the cases will swell/split.

Yep ^^^^. The cases will fireform to the new chamber dimensions causing standard pressure .38spls to swell and stick and +Ps to split. Also, ignition can be spotty because the primer doesn't stay centered since the cartridge fits loose in the now tapered chamber. I know these things from experience.

I presume that the case swelling/splitting would be substantially worse with .357mags since the pressure is much greater. I would expect a more catastrophic rupture.
