I'm certainly not the shutterbug that the OP is and my "collection" as it were is nowhere near as vast but I do have four- and six-inch no-dash 617s.

I replaced the rear sights on both guns with Milletts and installed a target trigger and hammer in the four-inch. Like all 617s, both are very accurate.

I bought the six-inch new for under $200 and the four-inch on GunBroker five or six years ago for something in the ballpark of $500. I'm glad I got 'em when I did!

My 617 no dash with a pair of Patrick's grips (have since sold the grips here on the forum). I also sold my 4" (and my 8 3/8") when someone offered what I then considered to be stupid money. That was then, this is now.

That is a Millett sight. They offer a more defined sight picture but are no longer made, hard to find and a bit salty when you do. I have them on all my S&W revolvers that I use for target shooting and it took me a while to find them for K-frames with the correct hole location and N-frames.

Even Dirty Harry would have a hard time keeping-up with how many times he shot that one! I can envision the script:

"I bet you are thinking, Did he fire 10 shots or only 9?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .22 Long Rifle, the best handgun in the world and will shoot over a mile, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya?"

Just does not have the same ring as the original.

Those Millett sights came both with and without the white outline. I have white outline ones on my guns with red ramp front sights and plain black ones (my preferred style) on the ones with a Patridge front sight.

Great guns. Developing somewhat of a cult following. My 617-4 4" 10 shot would be one of the very last revolvers that I would sell.

-2 with the aluminum cylinder. It came with the mount but not a rear sight.
I bought it anyway. It's a nice shooter.

I will take that as your having never had the pleasure of owning a 22 match grade revolver.

Here are a few of my 4" models, one was shortchanged and didn't get the full under-lugged barrel, I wonder if I can get it fixed with a warranty claim??

I'm looking for a 4" No Dash with serialized box and complete. My 4" is awesome but box doesn't have the all important label!

You should find a boxed one and we can trade. You don't like them correct boxes anyways do ya?? .

Last week I scored this 4" all stainless (pre-lock) 10 shot Model 617, with the box for only $635.00! It has the smooth "Combat" trigger and the action is outstanding. This should be a great plinker or training tool! I couldn't be happier!

Unlike my K-22's I only have one 617, a dash one I stumbled upon last year. Had no clue on pricing on these but was told $545.00 was good.

I just got these grips. What a difference it made ! I feel like it's a best of both worlds revolver. It has the look of a 617 but the capacity of a 617-4.
Kudos on the Kuracs.

Cool

Nice looking bunch of 617's. Here's my 617-1 6" 6 shot and I have the box and paperwork and the original S&W Hogue grips.

Love mine - not a pre, but a tack driver shooter. After I got my eyes fixed, easier to shoot with the red dot.

Originally these were made for export through Wischo, there were some flyers made for international use.

Around late 2000 IIRC correctly, after the hub-bub that S&W went through due the Clinton Admin "agreement", and after the gun community almost put S&W out of business, the company started distributing guns from the S&W Vault.

One of these made it's way to my "go to" dealer in Renton, WA. but the owner was out that day so they show'd the gun to a customer who immediately hoover'd it up. For some reason I called the shop a day later and was told that a very cool PC M617 was in...... but they also told me to not rush down as it was already sold...... Ughhhhhhh!

Lots of other interesting guns came out of the S&W Vault "purge" during those days, as they were desperately looking for additional revenue due to the gun community's boycott of S&W.

Oh well, I was as close as 25 miles from one of these very cool M617's.. and still dream about it...

Sad story! Are you sure it was the Wischo PC617 that made it to Renton? I always thought all of them for that order were shipped to Wischo and none were sold in the US?

Thanks IC

Yes, it was the same gun as you show above.

As I speculated above, this was during the time the company was clearing out the Vault, lots of interesting guns came out back then. I was told that they always kept some models in reserve for warranty replacement work, so if this came out during that time it was likely that it was in the vault for that reason.

Was yours re-imported?
