Elmer Keith 29-3
Looking at one of the Elmer Keith 29-3 commemorative revolvers. One of the 2500 made to commemorative him. Seller said he has the display case but nothing else. Inherited it and looking at selling it off and claims unfired.
He is asking $1000 or best offer. Thinking about offering $700 but I will not be leaving it unfired. Being it didn't belong to Elmer Keith, I don't see a great collector value. Am I thinking correctly or not?

I personally thing $1,000 isn't bad, so if you can get it for $700 that would be great.
Those are nice guns and would make a great shooter.

The guns with the "EMK" s/n prefix were made in August of 1986. Product code was 101227. My notes say only 100 wer made, but that seems absurdly low. Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't there a "plain" and "fancy" version? I might be thinking of something else.

I believe there were two grades of EK model 29s' made...neither seem to command a high collector value, except maybe to some die hard EK fans....

Yes, and some of his shots were further than 265y.....one mule deer was taken at closer to 600 yards by him.. the EK comemmoratives were 4" guns.....

The first 100 had ivory grips, the rest had wood. The ivory grip model is the most desired and I found a few old auctions with them selling closer to $1800.

In an impulse, I purchased one locally for $675 a couple years ago.
I'm a shooter and then realized how useless it was to me.
Already have 5 Models 29 and 629.
Finally traded it for a nice 27-2 and never looked back.

Kernel,
I bow to your expertise. According to the "S.C. of S&W" there were 2,500 Elmer Keith Commemorative Editions made and there was a "Deluxe Edition" worth 2 to 3 times the price of the EKCE.
The serial number range of the Deluxe Editions is EMK001 to EMK100. The number of the Deluxe Editions would match the number contained in your notes.
The EKCE, according to the book, was produced/shipped in 1985.

The Deluxe (100 made) was 101227, and the Standard (2,400 made) was 101226.
Found this old thread with some good info......
