649-2 side plate screws
Picked up this nice little 649-2 a few mo's back and have really enjoyed this gun, shoots great and carries even better.
What would be my best bet to get some replacement side plate screws??...they are a little worn.
Also If I get courage enough to remove the side plate I might want to replace the main spring and maybe the rebound spring any recommendations on what to go with ?

Same side plate screws, but that is not a 640-2. As Blackberry said, 638 (aluminum frame) or 649 stainless steel frame).

I have an 8# hammer and a 13# rebound in one of mine. It's pretty touchy and you better not rest your finger in SA on the trigger, unless you really want to shoot it. It shoots anything I have fed it...you just have to know the gun. I have 8# hammer springs in just about all of my j-frames, but keep a 14# rebound spring in most of them.
PS: It has the new yoke retention system, so make sure you get the right screw for the yoke.

Replacing Side Plate Screws
K L and N frame SW screws to date fit side plates. I have 3 screw to five screw SW revolvers in K through N and these screws are interchangeable.

As long as you stay with the dash number that implemented the new yoke retention. The 649 ND used the simple-screw (old). The new system was employed with the dash 1. The screw is both larger and has a spring-loaded glass-bead inserted in the nose where it contacts the rod..which is beveled. And...of course is more $$$. Only the yoke retention screw is different, the others should interchange.

That's the way my 637 is .a very light trigger in single action. And you are correct about the different screw for the crane
I may order some and lay them up for future use.

I believe Numrich has them for a tad less than $5.00. I did that some time ago...laid-up 3-4. They fit all the models with the NYRS. However...you're not likely to ruin one and I've never had to replace that one except when I ran across one that had been marred. Those will bottom on the shoulder of the screw and not apply too much pressure on the rod. You can't over tighten it enough to bind the yoke.

Thanks everyone I think I'll just go with the 8 lb hammer spring and leave the current rebound spring in. Has a nice trigger just want to lighten it up just a tad. I pulled the yoke screw out once and remember it having a little duu dad on the end like this
I assume this is the new yoke screw?

That's correct...the little duu-dad is the glass bead that nest against the rod. Some models are born with it and others got the upgrade with an engineering change (dash number). In the 649, it was incorporated in the dash 1.

I have had good luck with 15# rebound springs; nice SA, with a quick and positive reset.

Thanks everyone I ordered an 8 lb hammer and 16 lb rebound spring I didn't want to over do it as it is a cc gun. Also have some side plate screws on the way. I've been watching plenty videos of how to remove the side plate and removing the rebound spring and hammer spring. I should be good to go after that
