Default 638 bad finish, cryptic repair invoice

My 638's clear coat began peeling in the cylinder latch/thumb grip area. Talked to service rep,he indicated this was a common issue with the matte finish but didn't know if the finish is warrantied. He suggested I send it in for evaluation. Did so with letter enclosed describing the finish issue in detail - only the finish, no functional issue mentioned - with my contact info. Here's what I got back with the gun - apparently untouched - after 7 weeks. Anyone know what to make of "Comments: Do not use - Rust"? If finish isn't covered an email to that effect would have sufficed.

From the list of parts marked "Replaced" on the work order, it seems to indicate that the entire gun was replaced, unless I'm very wrong. You say nothing was done. Maybe call them to ask for an explanation of "Do not use, rust."

I read the invoice differently, either the parts are replaced or repaired and then marked as such. To me it looks like it sat around collecting dust for how ever long it was gone and then sent back.

I think a call to the service department is in order to find out what that means.

I can not comment on what the work order means, but I will ask how long you have had the firearm and when the peeling started

A carry revolver that is 6 days old and starts peeling or losing it factory finish is a defect in materials or workmanship. That would be refinished as a warranty issue

A carry revolver that is 6 years old and has it finish starting to peel or is losing it factory finish would be natural wear and tear. That would not be refinished as a warranty issue

Less than 2 years. My question to them was look at it , fix it if warrantied, if not let me know that and send it back.
