S&W 44 mag without mim trigger/hammer?
Any particular model I should be searching for a S&W 44 mag without the mim trigger/hammer?
Would these be before a certain year?
What other reputable site can I search besides gunbroker.com?
TIA..

Why? But I'll humor you.
629-5 (1997) Change to MIM trigger and hammer w/floating firing pin
29-6 (1995-96) Change to MIM cylinder release.
(1997) Change to MIM trigger
(1998) Change to MIM hammer w/floating firing pin.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

I just prefer the chrome trigger/hammer look similar to the PC guns.

The 629-4 Classic is the one that is in the very narrow window you want to hit. It has the endurance package. Also, it has all the features you want before the changes took place. Produced in the early 1990's. Mine is a 1993-1994 gun. The M29 from the same period also has what you want. I for one understand what you are looking for. . .I don't like the MIM parts either.

It's simple, as noted above a frame-mounted firing pin and you are too late .
Also, the silver (flash chrome) hammer and trigger were on earlier stainless .44s; the blue/nickel and later stainless ones were case-hardened.

The transition from thin chrome plated hammers and triggers to case colored but still forged ones ocured about 1993 during 629-3 production. However, there are exceptions like later made Performance Center revolvers with flash chromed internals.

All forged.
Everything you need.
Just back from the range.
Shot mine today snapping in for Sunday's bowling pin match.

The toughest 44 mag in the world won't injure a bear with the wrong ammo in it. That would be an ammo problem. Not a gun problem. I have 3 with mim parts and they are as nice or better than my older one.

The MIM hammer and trigger are available in Blue and in flash chromed, so if you want a particular look that can be accomplished by purchasing a new hammer and trigger. One positive for the MIM process is that parts such as the hammer and trigger do not require any fitting, it's simply a matter of changing them out. Another positive is that they have proven to be at least as durable as the older forged parts and may actually be more durable.
Downside is that in the N frame there seems to be some limitations on what finish is available for a specific trigger or hammer. For example I just do NOT NOT NOT like serrated triggers, so for my 625JM with it's flash chromed hammer and serrated trigger I had to replace both parts because the .400 wide smooth MIM trigger is only available in a blued finish.

29-5 and -6, 629-3 and -4 are the last with the forged parts. All have the full endurance package.
In the 629's the -3'a will have the flash chrome hammers and triggers. Most 629-4's do not.
Only difference between the 629-3 and 29-5 verses the 629-4 and 29-6 is that the later two have the new extractor style and all models are drilled and tapped for scope mounting. The exception is the classic and classic dx versions of the 29-5 and 629-3 which were drilled and tapped also.
There is nothing mechanically better about a 629-4 or 29-6 over the 629-3 and 29-5.
In the 629's I prefer the -3 as the flash chrome makes more sense on a stainless gun than the plain case hardened carbon steel on the -4's . I have seen many a -4 with rusty hammers and triggers.

Don't forget the 629-3 (and the 629-2E if memory serves).

Although my 629 does not, my 460sw has MIM parts and holds up just fine if durability is your fear. I also prefer the nonMIM revolvers because of the craftsmanship and trigger feel.

I polished the trigger on my 686+ with some Mothers Mag. I guess this would be an option if/when I get the S&W 44 mag.
unpolished side...

My 629-4 has a flash chromed trigger and a case hardened hammer. Shoots good.

To me, MIM triggers and hammers work just fine, but are inferior in looks. The 60-15 I bought my wife a year or so ago has one of the very best single action triggers I've experienced, but the trigger and hammer look like poo compared to the forged triggers and hammers in my N frames. When I bought that pistol for my wife I was a little concerned that the in-line firing pin wouldn't feel as good as the hammer mounted pins on my N frames, but that turned out to be a non-issue.
