Default was gifted a 342 pd Air lite - value?

Hello All,

I do not know much about revolvers but I was gifted a 342 pd Air lite the other day with factory case, all papers / manual, lock, spent shell casing, original cardboard box with serial # sticker, original purchase receipt, etc. It is in excellent condition with just a minor chip on the upper rear edge of the frame (shown below). It has a grip with a built in clip to tuck in pants but also has the original Hogue grip in the box. The little research I have done has led me to discover it is a "lock" model, which apparently is a little less desirable. What would be the right price to sell this for locally?

Thanks

I have one, Its a wonderful gun you should keep it. It was when new, and still is the lightest 38 special revolver ever made at 10.7 ozs. You could put it on Gunbroker and sell it all day for $850 no problem.

I put a feeler out there at $650 on armslist and some dude wrote me like I was crazy because it has the lock, offering only $400. On another forum I was advised I should be able to get $550-600 with no problem, and on gunbroker there is one with more wear on it currently listed at $499 with no bids...........so im still confused what is the right price for mine, as shown above, to not be that guy that waits a year for top dollar but also not give it away.

Unless you really need the money, hold onto it. Even if you don't like it ...lock it up and lube periodically.

It's already kind of a cult classic and my opinion is it will keep rising in value.

I'd hang on to that one, they didn't make too many of them. But, if you did decide to part with it, the right buyer would probably give you $600+/-. Like Mark said, the value of them will continue to rise.

It's the first one with product code 163816 that I'd ever seen, and I keep a list of thousands of S&W revolvers and their pc's.

I'd keep it, or sell it for $800+.

I bought a Model 337PD when I saw it and wish I'd seen a 342PD. They're not a revolver I'd shoot weekly at the range but you most certainly can shoot it enough to develop confidence in the gun and your abilities with it. I'll probably start looking for the 342PD and will gladly add it to my collection when I do find one locally.

P.S. I would remove the current stocks and T grip and either put the original stocks back on or find a pair that compliments the Air Lite.

Used to have a 342Ti & it's value was $850, It did not have the lock & had fancy wooden grips factory for what it's worth, also came in a similar style box with the lock..

This revolver pocket carried like no other, A 642/442 felt heavy once used to the weight difference..

I've had this 342 since I bought it new, quite a few years ago. If memory serves the gun came with the grips now on it. Wonderful handgun to carry, a bear to shoot. Wear gloves. Really.

It was free, so I would also suggest 'investing' $20 or so and trying it out at the range with the lightest .38 Special loads you can find before selling it. If you do I think you need one of these to replace it :

I know if someone gave me that, I wouldn't EVEN consider getting rid of it. That baby would reside in my pocket!
