Just bought a S&W 19-5 2 1/2, how did I do?
Let's Put it another Way. I recently purchased a S&W Model 19-5 for $650.00. I was not completely sure what they were selling for these day's. It is NIB, and has the 3 T's, plus the Red ramp front insert and White outline rear sight. Did I do ok with this purchase. Thanks in advance.
Here are some photos, I was wrong about unfired, but it has not had more than a cylinder or 2. The burn rings are extremely light, light like when there are only 3. Also no cut line in back strap. Since I was wrong about unfired i was wrong on the price too, it was $600. not $650. If I paid too much for the 36 no dash $450., then that extra 50 should help make up for it.

For a new in box example, I'd say you did just fine, especially if its a matching box

NIB is a designation for a firearm that has never been sold at retail. Is that correct to your recently acquired 19, or are you describing a used firearm with so little wear as to be like new in condition?
Presuming that latter (as that is significantly more likely), and since you used "NIB" I'll also presume this 19 came with the original correctly numbered box with original unused tools and all factory documents, what we apparently have is:
S&W Model 19-5; 2.5" barrel; NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards "perfect" condition; "3Ts" meaning target trigger, target hammer and target stocks (you sure on that last one? -- very odd as snubbies didn't ship with target stocks, and 19-5 snubbies didn't usually have target triggers and hammers, either, though not unheard of); red ramp front sight and white outline rear; all correct factory accoutrement -- box, tools and docs.
Only question mark is what finish, blue or nickel (likely blue), and if those stocks are really targets or the much more likely magnas (smaller wood stocks -- run a google image search for both and confirm).
All told, if as described, you did quite well at $650 out the door for a complete, collector quality package. Even the gun alone in perfect condition would have been a fine buy at that price.
Now that you've read all this, is it really what you have? Post up some pics...

Since gun auction web sites are my only source of finding great condition S&W handguns....
I'd say an unfired or NIB 19-5 snub, at the price you paid, is....
SUPER NICE!

19-5
Thanks for the Replies. I didn't have enough money at the moment, But it's being held for me. It is in it's original box, with all papers, and I believe tools. I didn't dig deep enough, but was more concerned on the condition.
The only thing I didn't like were the magna grips. I have large hands, and I will most likely find some finger groove wood, or rubber, that is if I shoot it.
I like keeping things as i find them.
No turn line, no scratches, and the prettiest sight picture i have ever seen.
I looked down a 6 inch with the same sights, and the 2 1/2 by far was just amazing to look down. I will post photo's as soon as I pick it up.
Thanks again.

I just picked up a 19-5, 2 1/2" myself. I think that you did well for $650, I paid a little bit more for mine, but not that much that I will lose any sleep over it, one thing is for sure, that don't make any more like these and I have mine! Looking forward to pictures of yours.

I'd say you got a very good deal.
Here's my track on the model:
Smith & Wesson 19 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (36th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 116 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1055 over a period of 5 Yrs 10 Mos ending January 25, 2016. The average price as of that date was $615 over nearly six years. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457.
The last 10 prices I have for this model since 6/9/2015 range from $600 to $975 averaging $725
The average used price is definitely increasing and a 19 snubbie in the condition you describe would put it above average, maybe in the $700 range.

When it comes to guns that are "collectible", I don't care if it has been sold 10 times, if it has never been taken from the original box and shot, or visibly handled, it still rates "NIB" designation.

I agree. But when I try to sell them, I'm told my unfired in box guns are used. When I try to buy them, I'm told they're "New in Box", but only test fired a few boxes

Not legally, it doesn't. Ask your local FFL. "A[s]NIB" or "L[ike]NIB" but not "NIB". YOU may not care but representing a gun previously sold at retail as NIB can be considered fraud, any warranty may be void by definition.

19-5
Hi again, forgot to answer, the snubby is Blue. You can bet I looked around online and googled S&W 19-5, and had a hard time finding a 2 1/2, plus having the 3 t's and then the red ramp and white outline rear. I do have many S&W's that fit the same category, NIB, and LNIB, mostly model 53 and 53-2. I will keep this as it is, and if I want to shoot one, I will pick up a well used one, hopefully for less money, even if it's a model 66.
Thanks again.

Huh?
My 2.5" 19-5 is most definitely pre-lock. Are you sure on the dash-5 designation?

My Bad
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize, that is one reason I definitely bought that 19-5, you can tell I have never owned anything that was not Pinned and Recessed.
I failed to realize when the locks came in. There is No Lock on this 19-5, my record is still 100% on not owning a S&W with a lock. And yes I do realize this is not pinned and recessed.

Bought this 19-5 a couple months ago for 575. I would classify it as slightly carried. I have been carrying it since I bought it and put about 300 rounds through it. Absolutely love it.

I bught a pristine 19-5 snub in December for $550. I thought that was very reasonable price for that gun. I rarely any 19 snubs around here and when they do show up, the prices are high. I have had several 19/66s over the last forty years and traded them away...This one is saying with me until I become senile or I have to pay the boatman for a ride across the river Styx.
