Default Bone Grips

Hello, does any one know of any one that makes custom grips out of bone? I found some bones that I think would be cool to make grips out of.

Here is a pair of Patrick's grips on one of my guns.
Below is a link to a lot of pictures of his grips. There are some bone grips interspersed in among them.

A phone call or e-mail to the address on the website will get you started if you're interested.

Patrick is a good guy to work with.

Well, I found some bones out back that are still fresh. That I would send them in and get a set of grips made for my smith. Thought that would stand out to all other L-frames.

I hope you know just what kind of bones you are dealing with, here, if you know what I mean. Were they, like, buried in the back yard?

In any case, Patrick will let you know if what you have is suitable and then fix you up

The bones are from a old horse that died little over a year ago (old age), and we got a friend with a tractor to drag it way back. I was running my Pit around for exercised and he found the bones. The bones are flawless.

OK, I don't know if this the best place to ask this or not. How durable are bone grips/stocks? Are they prone to breaking? Thanks in advance for your feedback! Bob

I've seen a lot of well used old knives with bone handles. The bone even if well worn is usually sound.

I've seen more old wood handled knives with cracks, missing scales etc. than I have ones with bone handles.

Bone knife handles/scales are generally made from bovines.

Having said all that a handgun grip is going to be thicker and usually larger. But I imagine if it's properly handled it would do fine.

I do know that at one time bone handles for guns and knives were quite popular, especially "jigged" bone, to give it a stag-like appearance. From the number made and their wide acceptance, I would assume at least some types of bone are pretty durable. I've seen giraffe bone sold in the last few years especially for knife scales and other flat handles such as the flat panels for Model 1911 semi-autos. No personal experience with them, though.

I post these whenever the subject comes up. These are Grashorn elk bone, not antler. The other side is the same. These just knocked me out when they showed up. And they got here super fast.
