Default Older 442-1 vs new 442's

Besides the LOCK, how do the older 442-1's compare in quality and materials to the new ones? Or are the the same internal materials (besides the frame lock)?

The 442-1 was the first + P rated version. It doesn't have the lock (the -2 does), and it is still in production. There may have been some detail or production method changes which the factory wouldn't announce, but it is the same gun currently produced.

According to the standard reference, the -1 came out in 1996; MIM trigger started and nickel finish stopped in 1997. Frame on both is the J Magnum.
