Maybe it came from that guy on YouTube that tells you barrel length is measured from the front of the frame to the tip of the barrel while he compares a 2.5" 686 to a 4" version. Good buy!

Congrats are definitely in order. And it renews hope that deals and the occasional sleepers are still out there. Unfortunately, I usually can only read about them.

Good find. Enjoy!

Congratulations! That's a fantastic looking 686 in a great barrel length. The 3-incher's balance can't be beat.

Where did the 2,500 number come from, is that how many 3" -4's were made?

Bought a Talo 3 inch from a forum member here about 5 weeks ago. Always wanted a non fluted cylinder. Of course it has the lock. But for 2400 dollars difference from the one that sold on GB I am very happy with it.

I have one of those and never knew it was such a rare bird!
This thread made me smile!
Not planning on selling it but may be a bit more careful with it now.
I have the box and everything with it as well.

Love this gun......but got the bug for a H&k P7. Was wondering if this ol girl was sought after enough for a straight trade for a shooter grade P7?

At what you paid for it you could justify trading it - you didn't specify what kind of P7 (regular or M8) - but you could get a lot more by selling it and putting the funds toward whatever you want. Or just keeping your 686 and saving for another gun; people do that all the time and there is less future regret . Good luck in your decision.

Good score, I got one similar, bought the world's ugliest CS-1 3" a couple years ago for way less than the price of a new 686. Bubba had tried his hand at engraving the side plate, then tried to get rid of it, so it's not pretty but still shoots a dream and makes a great carry gun for camping/hiking

A PSP would probably be several hundred dollars less than an M8. There were a bunch of ex-police P7s sold here about 5 (?) years ago in the $600-700 range.

Most of the time it seems like the bear eats you but this time you got to take a nice bite out of Mr Bear.

Bought the lil woman a 686-5 4" some 3 (?) years ago and while the action wasn't as smooth as I'd prefer, she's an excellent shot with it and says it suits her. She's since gotten her CHL (TX) and the 4"ers I have are a tad bulky for her 5'nuttin stature. Just scored a 686-1 Snub and told my FFL who happens to be a very competent gunsmith, he had my permission to pull the sideplate and check out the innards and give me his opinion (he knows what I like in smoothness of the trigger, etc.). Clean revolver but he didn't like the action. He'll be working the trigger and putting in Wolf springs to smooth everything out. Few more days and I'll pick it up and present it to my better half. She's taking our granddaughter on a road trip around Texas to show her all the neat sites she remembers as a young mother. She will be carrying that snub with her, no doubt. Easy to conceal and I'm sure she'll be pleased. You got a heck of a deal on your 686. Well done. Mine was a little bit more expensive but I'm not complaining. The gunsmith work will add $35 to my total but that's more than reasonable. Naturally it helps that your FFL and gunsmith just happen to be a good friend and he get's plenty of business from me and I recommend him to all the local folks.

Girvin, not a CS-1 but set up almost the same. MtnSpur, sounds like you got two good scores.....the misses and the 2.5 686! I have a 686 no dash snub Lew Horton and a near mint 686-3 snub with combats. The -3 sure is pretty but the no dash has an outstanding trigger.
