Default Pachmayr Compac Pros on a K-Frame

I have smaller medium hands. The size and shape of this set of Pachs allow me to grip the gun correctly and get my index finger where it should be, (1st joint over center of trigger) while keeping the bore axis lined up with my forearm. Extremely comfortable for shooting, even with the exposed backstrap. They fit perfectly and not like a 3rd grader trimmed them with a scissors like some earlier recent Pachmayrs I've had.

Great grips on what I already consider to be an ideally balanced revolver.

Back when I was still working we used two different sorts of Packmayrs on department guns. The people with small to average hands much preferred the professional model, like you do, with the uncovered backstrap. Those with big hands preferred the full coverage variety. One size does not fit all.

I use those grips on a 2" K frame for concealed carry. They are very slim across the width and are better than magna grips with a Tyler T grip on the K frames. Great grips and I don't have small hands. Bill

Good for you, Scruffy! They make a great-looking revolver look even better. I have a pair of those grips and they simply do not "fit my pistol." That protruding backstrap murders my hand with it's nerve/tissue damage. Just goes to show, for every Jack, there's a Jill.

P.S. Let me add to this earlier post: I believe S&W did well to produce this gun with the RB. It opens up a world of grip options in the RB design and of course, RB-to-SB grips are also out there.

Yea, I have always been a big fan of the "Goodyears." When I was issued a model 19 back in 1980 everyone bought a set of Pachmayr presentation grips to put on.

For many years my off duty 2 1/2 inch model 66 wore the original wood grips. But in the past couple of years I picked up a set of the compac model Pachmayr's that do cover the back strap and I could not believe how much better it felt in the hand for me. Glad you found a good fit quicker than I did.

Groo here
That nerve damage thing is a "pain" LOL.........
I like the Presentation or the Decelerator for the harder kicker
S&W's.
I do not like the compact , as they are too thick.
On my M-60 Pro , Pachmayr's allow me to shoot any 357mag load
with out pain.

Ditto. I use them on my 2" Model 64 when I carry it. The Compac Pro's are great.

Default Agree!

Agree they are great and very functional grips. Prefer the look of magnas, but the pachs shoot better. Have them on my Model 65 3 inch. They work great! Wore it all day today. Here is mine with it's Ruger GP 100 3 inch Cousin.

I love em, wish I could find wood grips the same dimension.

But...the correct position on the trigger is the pad is the pad of the finger, 90-degrees to the trigger.

For me, I use the pad of my finger for light single action work (under 5 lbs), especially with 1911 style pistols. The first joint of the index finger offers more leverage and control over typically much heavier, longer double action pulls on revolvers.

It's whatever works best for you.

A very compelling post OP. In fact, I just bought a set for $16 on Ebay destined for my 66-2 3 inch.

Were you the one who won the bid? I got a different set instead. I went to a shop and one of the sales associates had a 66 in 2.5" with this set of grips. Boy, they felt good. I had to get a set.

Yup. After reading this thread, I searched, located, and clicked "Buy it now". They are supposed to arrive today.

I didn't see one with a Buy It Now for $16. We are talking about a different listing then. In any case, I got mine yesterday. It goes well with my Model 10 and feels good. My wife likes it, too, which is great since the gun is for her. Probably the only non-wood grips I would use.

My Compac Pro's arrived today. They give a very business-like appearance to my 66. I like the fit and feel. I also like the open back strap design. Plus they fit my 2.5 inch 66 and 19. I keeping my wood grips for show and tell.

I bought a set for my 2" 10-5 at the gun show Sunday. They are very nice, and were found in the bottom of a junk box. Did set me back $6 though. Bob

I have the Compac Professional on my 686+ 3". Since it's a house gun that the Wife might need, it's a great compromise for both of us. And when I carry it, the rubber is not grabby enough to print, like other rubber grips from another major popular manufacturer...

The fact they don't grab is a big plus for me as well.

Do these control recoil well despite the open back strap?

Not for me, they don't. The nerve/tissue damage in the web of my hand makes shooting larger frame RB guns an ordeal. These grips do not even reach the backstrap, leaving it uncovered. There is no cushioning effect, making these grips useless to me.

The Compac Professional grips are for concealed carry where the gun gets carried more than fired. These grips make the Model 10 almost as concealable as the Detective Special. I don't find shooting with the Compacs uncomfortable using .38 or .38+P and when I practice it is usually 25 rounds and I am finished with that gun. Uncle Mike's or Hogue's will be a lot more comfortable but they won't conceal as well. Bill

The Compacs have the backstrap covered while the Compac Pros have the backstrap exposed. Each one serves a different purpose but they are both great. I did not think I will like rubber grips as much as I like both sets!

I have the Compacs on my 4" Model 64 and the Compac Pros on my 2" Model 10. No pics though, sorry

I bought the Compac Pros specifically because they are smaller than the Compacs and fit my hand better, (I can't see concealed carry with the 4.25" 66-8). The Pros are very comfortable for me. I can shoot .357 magnums all day with no problem. Much less of a sharp kick than what I get with my 442 and .38 +P's.

Agreed; they definitely fit my hand better as well. I have found them to be one of the best grips for actually shooting, it just depends on the size of your hands, the wider grip do not work as well at the range for me.

I should have said above, I like the smaller Compac Pro on my .38 Sp (64 2") and the regular Compac on my .357 Mag (686 2.5"). The covered backstrap makes a tremendous difference for me with full bore 158 gr magnum loads.
