627 V-Comp Blow out!
Just got my new 627 V-Comp and on the second day of shooting the compensator blew up. Not sure if it was the 40 rounds of Federal .357 MAG 125 Grain JHP that I ran through it or the 38 special ammo that I was using.

I'm kind of bummed out about this as I was expecting more from this gun. Oh well! stuff happens and hopefully SW will fix it for me.

How was the accuracy before the blowout? Just wondering if the compensator was not aligned properly from the factory. I'm also assuming this is a brand new gun and not just new to you?

It kind of looks like the metal has pretty large grain size at the failure point. Possibly poor heat treatment.

Man that's no good OP. Sorry about your luck. I held that 627 v comp the other day, when I bought my 327 TRR8, and it had the grittiest trigger I've ever felt. Hope you get it fixed quickly!

Looks to me like what happens if the compensator gets just a bit loose. It's why I wouldn't have one, although if I did I would be compulsive about checking the tightness constantly.

what pisgah said. you need to check the tightness of the allen screw that holds the compensator. I know, I have done the same thing with my 629 VComp (2X). I now check mine about every 30 rounds fired.

+1 on the allen screw that holds the comp in. After tightening , it gets loose between 100-150 rounds and its possible that if you didn't remove comp during cleaning the last (first) time you took it out, it loosened on its own (recoil).
After you get it back, tighten every time you take it out. They get loose quick and dont use thread locker. It must be removed for cleaning.
Comps require added maintenance in addition to the revolvers regular maintenance.
