Default Frame type

OK, I'm relatively new to S&W revolvers. I just got a new 629-6 revolver in 44 mag. The rubber grips don't fit my large hand good and there is some 'bite' with full house loads. So, I want to buy some good wood grips.. But first I need to know what frame letter I have. K, J or what? There is a mounting screw thru both grip halves. Can the one piece grips be used with the attachment on bottom of butt?
Thank you

Your model 629 in an "N" frame.

Yes. A new mono grip will come with the proper mounting hardware. Hogue calls it a stirrup. If you buy a used grip and it's missing it's hardwear, you can contact the manufacturer and they will usually send you the small Hardware pieces for free.

As answered above you need N frame round butt grips.
If you want some other rubber grips, try Pachmayr Large Presentations. Another option is the Hogue grips made for the X frame revolvers. They are made to fit X frame which fits the K and L frames. But I have heard people say they put them on N frames successfully. Either of those should fit your big hands better than Hogue Monogrips.
If you really want wood grips check out Herrets. They have you send them an outline of your hand.
