Night Guard Series
So what ever happened to the Night Guard revolver series? Were they just too expensive for what you got? They seemed like nice revolvers, though I never owned one.

Yes they cost more than their steel counterparts.
Too Expensive, that is a personal decision Obviously I didn't think so.
What is better than a snub nosed N-frame that can be carried all day without hardly noticing it?
To me that is worth some extra money

Unique guns that appeal to those liking lightweight big bore snubnose revolvers.
They only lasted a few years starting in 2008. MSRP was $1100+.

I picked up a 315 NG and really love it.
I added some light colored wood Ahrend Tactical smooth grips and it really looks sharp.
I think they were just a great idea at a bad time. The semi-auto market has taken over the self defense pistol market for many new buyers of handguns. As stated before they became a niche market.

My lady friend has a 325 as her regular carry gun. It is a very nice weapon indeed.

The S&W Night Guard series did have some issues with the firing pin, and lite primer strikes. I don't know if all were affected however, as some were made in L-frames, and others in N-frames. In any event, S&W had a free fix for all those that needed it.
The ultra lite Scandium frames were nice! Recoil was manageable, especially using the rubber grips.

Always sort of drawn to these, but honestly for me when I looked at need they never fully fit the niche. I like em intrinsically, but my only LW guns are j frames...but when has "need" ever driven want? I'd love a 386 6" as a woods gun, and I've debated on a 329 4" several times.
Did they ever make a longer barrel 41 mag? That would be drool worthy

That's what I heard when I got my first NG so I bought an Apex XP firing pin kit, just in case. Never needed it. Finally just used it in my new 625PC because I liked the Apex's firing pin's nose profile better than the factory's. (FWIW: I ordered a replacement from Apex & it appears all the news ones have a more pointed nose vs. the older one that was more rounded.)

I wanted a couple of night guards when they were out but I did not have the money. Top of the list would be the 310 then a 386 and or the 327. I have handled a few of them but never had the money to buy at the time. I doubt they ever bring them back but I wish they would.

I still have my 315NG. This should have been the best Lady's Revolver ever offered by S&W. Light weight, but big enough to shoot well.
I believe that the price and timing were the biggest problem with sales. Like was said above the semiauto's had a huge foothold in the market before they came out. Then another issue was size. Most were either L or N Frame size airweights. While most of us serious carriers have no problem with an airweight N Frame snub, lots of casual or new carriers would think them just to large to hide well.
Most were pretty low production numbers also. I have a note in the box with my 315 with the exact number built. I believe they made around 560 total of them. Not all that many, and the 315NG should have been the best of the best, I would have thought.
I also had a 310NG, but let someone talk me out of it. I never carry the 315. It lives in the gun safe. I normally carry either my 2" 64 or 3" 66.

Love them!
I must admit that I got into the Night Guard after my 329PDs. I was finally able to find a 329ND and I couldn't be happier. Someday I might be able to afford another one and then contentedly sit back with 2 329PDs and 2 329NGs (2 is 1 ya know!)
